Media Distributors

• When creating a media product it’s imperative to consider how and who it will be distributed by to see where it will fit within the market.

• One distributor that could potentially distribute it is Bauer Media Group which has it’s headquarters in Germany. It operates in 15 countries across the globe and distributes about 38 million magazines weekly.

• It’s magazines include Q and Kerrang.• These two magazines target different target audiences

with Kerrang targeting fans of rock from early teen to late 30’s whereas Q targets a much wider range of music from mid teens to 40’s. This shows that Bauer targets certain groups of people for different products, often based on taste of music.

• Therefore there is a gap in their market which my product could fill as it would target Indie fans exclusively which they do not distribute currently. Also because Indie encompasses such a range of genres it means that it is not a too small niche product and would target a big enough group of people to make it worthwhile distributing.

• Also because Bauer distributes in so many countries and already distributes well regarded music magazines it has a credible reputation which would in turn help the credibility of my publication.

• My magazine would most likely be distributed to chain stores and some independent stores that sell magazines such as music shops, book shops, supermarkets and newsagents as this is where other magazines are sold so will be consumed more if placed in an environment surrounded by other publications.

• However as technologies change and develop media texts are being distributed in a number of different ways. For example with the rise of Web 2.0 means that texts are increasingly consumed digitally. Therefore my product would also have an online presence such as a website and would also be available to download onto phones, ipods, ipads and electronic readers. It would also be possible for it to be posted to readers houses with a subscription.

• My product would be advertised on music channels, especially on Indie and rock channels as this targets my audience more. It would also be advertised on the radio and in other magazines, especially music magazines to again appeal to the target audience.

• It would also be advertised on internet sites such as youtube and facebook to appeal to the large young audience that use those sites who are the age of my target audience.
