Welcome to the 2010 College of Science Distinguished Alumni Awards
ceremony
This year we are honoring 10 accomplished members of the Purdue
Science alumni family whose contributions truly stand out These
Purdue scientists have had a big impact mdash and not just on their
scientific disciplines They have changed the world
The College of Science has many prominent alumni mdash this group
proves it The words displayed on the cover of this program mdash
innovators leaders advocates mdash are but just a few of the outstanding
attributes seen in the diverse group we are honoring today
One of my goals for the college is to create a culture where students
donrsquot just become experts in their particular scientific discipline but
they also learn how that discipline interrelates and connects to other
sciences and to society as a whole After all we have grand challenges
to solve Each of these honorees embodies that idea perfectly and I am
proud to join you in celebrating their achievements
Please join me in congratulating the 2010 Distinguished Science
Alumni
