Mrs. Shanker is eternally grateful for your efforts in this!!! Composer Worksheet: This week you will learn about Johann Sebastian Bach. - Turn In: o The best way to answer the questions is to go to the new website and type your answers directly into the google form. o https://sites.google.com/view/hhschoir-vocalmusic o There are also videos on the new website of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” performed by Celtic Woman and his “Ave Maria” performed by Kathleen Battle. So in treble clef lines the bottom line is “E”. The standard acronym is “Every Good Boy Does Fine”. If you already use this or another acronym you can use it on this page. o If this is new to you, or you want to have fun with it, come up with your own version. BUT, don’t use more than the five words you are allowed. It gets confusing if you add an extra word to make it make sense. o You don’t need an acronym for the treble spaces because they already form the word “FACE”. If you want to write an acronym, you can, but you won’t lose points for skipping the treble spaces section.

Try to reduce the number of emails by submitting your work through the google forms on the new website and uploading files to the google drive folder with your name on it. Mrs. Shanker is eternally grateful for your efforts in this!!! Composer Worksheet: This week you will learn about Johann Sebastian Bach.

- Turn In: o The best way to answer the questions is to go to the new website and type your

answers directly into the google form. o https://sites.google.com/view/hhschoir-vocalmusic o There are also videos on the new website of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”

performed by Celtic Woman and his “Ave Maria” performed by Kathleen Battle. Listen and enjoy!

Practice Log:

§ Keep up the same 30 minute Practice Log as the last two weeks. § If you practice more than 30 minutes, you can log your extra time too. It’s nice to see you

singing more often. FIRST YEARS - Notation Unit 3: Lesson 1 – Bass Clef Note Names

- There is an instructional video that is on the new website. It walks you through how the names of the notes are assigned and structured on the bass clef. Please watch it and read through the lesson page and take notes. If you get stuck, please reach out for help.

o Here is the video link if you want to type it: https://youtu.be/Z40fcNNvu0E - You will need to complete the review pages 32 and 33 as well as Quiz 24 and the Acronym

page by physically writing on the page. Then take a picture or scan to turn in and upload them into your personal google drive turn in folder “P2 – Your Name”.

- The Acronym page is your chance to write down acronyms that you make up yourself so you will be more likely to remember them.

o Please remember that you have to start your acronym with the bottom note/letter.

If you want to write an acronym, you can, but you won’t lose points for skipping the treble spaces section.

o Some standards and some of my favorites from students are: § Elephants Give Baby Dolphins Flowers (Treble Lines) § Every Good Burger Deserves Fries (Treble Lines) § Empty Garbage Before Dad Flips (Treble Lines) § Every Girl Buys Diamonds Forever (Treble Lines) § Good Burgers Deserve Fresh Avocado (Bass Lines) § Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always (Bass Lines) § All Cows Eat Grass (Bass Spaces) § Always Challenge Evil Ghosts (Bass Spaces)

SECOND YEARS – Sight Reading Factory (Aidan, Brian, Ivan, Michael, Sharvin, Ysaach)

- There are several assignments up from last quarter that Shanker has finished grading. A perfect score is 8 points (one point for each measure). If you did not receive 8 points on a completed rhythm assignment, click into it to see Shanker’s feedback and listen to the recording to learn from your mistakes.

- Everyone will be completing one rhythm assignment per week. Sort the assignments by name and go in order. You can’t do Level 2 until you pass Level 1 with a perfect score. That means if you didn’t pass, you will need to have Shanker reset the level so you can try again. Make sure you read the feedback, then text Shanker in remind with which level you need reset.

- Shanker is working towards having instructional videos on the new website to help prepare you for each level. Until those go up, feel free to ask for help!

Practice your choir repertoire (songs) for 30 minutes each week. You should spread out your practice so you work on only a few songs per day. Use the learning tracks in the google drive and make sure you look at the music while you practice. Print this Practice Log and write how many minutes you worked on each piece in the box under the corresponding day that you rehearsed.

Date of Practice: Week 3

What was a difficult section of music that you struggled with?

What song(s) do you consider already perfect?

Write your own acronyms to remember the note names of the Lines and Spaces on Treble and Bass clefs. Remember it has to read from the bottom letter to the top and you can’t add any extra words like “a” or “the”. Example: “Every Good Boy Does Fine”Treble Spaces does not need an acronym if you remember the word “FACE”.
