3- FAIRS AND CONFERENCES

3.1- BSTIM, the first fair for textile production

FITEX, partner of ECUVal project, participated in BSTIM Fair with a stand where the ECUVal

Roll up (Annex 1) was exposed.

BSTIM is the first fair for textile production in Spain and the only fair in Europe organized

exclusively for local products where brands and distributors can find their supply partners in

proximity of ready-made pieces. The aim of the fair is to make business relationships easier

among textile enterprises in Catalonia and managers of fashion products productions with

brands and European distributors.

The venue took place in Igualada (Barcelona, Spain) from 25th to 26th February, 2015.

5

3.2- Conference on Digital Integration and Efficiency in Textile and Clothing Value Chains

across the Euro-Mediterranean Area

INTEXTER, participated in the "Conference on Digital Integration and Efficiency in Textile

and Clothing Value Chains across the Euro-Mediterranean Area”, organized by the European

Commission (DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) and Malopolska

Krakow Region.

M. Carmen Gutierrez, coordinator of ECUVal project, presented the current status of this

project with the presentation “Electrochemical techniques (EC) combined with UV irradiation

for the treatment and reuse of textile dyeing wastewaters: Industrial marketing” in the session

“Textile and water management” (Annex 2).

The conference took place in The Cloth Hall (Krakow) on 27 and 28 April 2015.

6

3.3- 40º Simposium AEQCT “Normalidad del cambio en la industria”

GRAU SA, partner of ECUVal project, participated in the 40th Symposium “Normalidad del

cambio en la industria” (normality of change in the industry) organized by AEQCT.

Alex Grau, CEO of GRAU SA, explained the importance of innovation activities at industrial

level, he also explained how GRAU SA has adapted to these changes (explaining the

ECUVal project) and encouraged participants to participate in innovation projects as a

challenge for textile sector.

The venue took place in Barcelona (Spain) on 14th May, 2015.

7

3.4- International Conference on Industrial Waste&Wastewater Treatment & Valorization

M. Carmen Gutiérrez, coordinator of ECUVal project, participated in the International

Conference “Industrial Waste & Wastewater Treatment & Valorisation” organized by the the

National Technical University of Athens and The Hellenic Water Association (HWA).

ECUVal project was presented with the poster entitled “Electrochemical Techniques

Combined with UV Irradiation for the Treatment and Reuse of Textile Dyeing Wastewater”

(Annex 3)

The conference took place in Athens from 21st to 23rd May, 2015.

8

3.5- International Conference on Chemical and Biochemical Engineering

Víctor López Grimau, researcher of ECUVal project, participated in the International

Conference on Chemical and Biochemical Engineering.

ECUVal project was presented with the poster entitled “Electrochemical Techniques

Combined with UV Irradiation for the Treatment and Reuse of Textile Dyeing Wastewater”

(Annex 3).

The conference took place in Paris from 20th to 22nd July, 2015.

9

3.6- 2nd International Conference on Desalination using Membrane Technology

M. Carmen Gutiérrez, coordinator of ECUVal project, participated in the “2nd International

Conference on Desalination using Membrane Technology” with the poster entitled

“Minimisation of environmental impact of saline and colored effluents by means of membrane

and electrochemical treatments” (Annex 4).

The conference took place in Singapore from 27th to 28th April, 2015.

10

3.7- ITMA- International Textile Machinery Exhibition

ICOMATEX, partner of ECUVal project, participated in ITMA Fair with a stand where the

ECUVal roll up (Annex 5) and leaflets (Annex 6) were exposed.

ITMA has been the world’s most established textile and garment machinery exhibition since

1951. Over the years, it has been a catalyst for change and competitiveness for the industry.

The drive towards sustainability in the entire textile and garment value chain is increasingly

integrated with enlightened business practices, and innovative technology holds the key to

environmental sustainability.

The fair took place in Milano (Italy) from 12nd to 19th November, 2015.

11

3.8- Industrial Meeting “Retos para la creación de valor”

GRAU SA, partner of ECUVal project, participated in the Industrial Meeting “Retos para la

creación de valor” (challenges for creating value) organized by Foment de Treball Nacional.

The meeting was focused on explain the main constraints to promote the territory an industry

generating high added value, occupying a space in the global value chain. Alex Grau, CEO

of GRAU SA, explained the ECUVal project as an example of the textile sector, in the section

“Rethinking energy strategy key industrial sectors: chemical, cement and textile”.

The venue took place in Barcelona (Spain) on 3rd December, 2015.

12

3.9- Industrial Meeting “Technologies to optimize the production of Textile Industry”

ECUVal project was presented with the presentation entitled “Technologies to remove colour

and reuse textile wastewater: ECUVal Project”.

The event took place in Olot (Spain) on 17th December, 2015.

Membrane technology is applied to treat wastewater from textile dyeing processes with reactive

dyes which generate significant amounts of colored effluents with high concentration of electrolyte.

OBJECTIVES

Evaluation of two NF membranes for treatment of synthetic effluents with bi- and tri-reactive dyes.

Treatment of concentrates by means of electrochemical techniques.

Reuse of permeates and concentrates in new dyeing processes.

MEMBRANE TREATMENT

Polyethersulfone nanofiltration membranes:

Hidracore H10 (3000 daltons)

Hidracore H50 (1000 daltons)

NF: Up to 98% dye removal was achieved

Permeates were able to be reused in new dyeing

process. Fabrics dyed with the permeate were evaluated

respect to references carried out with deionised water.

Color differences obtained were into the acceptance

range commonly established by the industry.

ELECTROCHEMICAL TREATMENT

Concentrates containing retained dyes were treated

by electrochemical process in a 2-L undividable cell

with Ti/PtOx electrodes.

After 30 min. of electrochemical treatment almost

100% color removal was achieved.

Decolored concentrates were reused in new dyeing

processes (70% treated effluent and 30% clean

water).

Dyeing obtained with reused concentrated also met

color differences acceptance criterion.

The combination of nanofiltration membrane and electrochemical process enables to treat

and to recover the colored and saline effluents generated by the textile industry

Results of our laboratory and semi-industrial studies

are been transferred to the textile market by means of

the project ECUVal. www.ecuval.eu
