SUGGESTED USES FOR THIS VIDEO

! This film is a light-hearted address of the different ways people try to explain away the resurrection. It begins and ends with humor, but still offers the opportunity to be moved by the truth that Jesus really did rise from the dead. Use it as a non-threatening way to approach this topic.

SYNOPSIS

Sempronis and Alexander, the Roman soldiers assigned to guard Jesus’ tomb, have a problem. The body is gone. What do they tell Pilate?

WHERE’S THE BODY?

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. The soldier, Alexander, offers two explanations for Jesus’ missing body. What is the first one? His followers over-powered them and took the body.

2. What reason does Sempronis give for the uselessness of this explanation?

3. Read Acts 16:25-28 as evidence of what soldiers would do if they failed in their job to contain a prisoner.

4. What is the second explanation Alexander offers? Jesus didn’t die. He fainted. (Commonly called the Swoon Theory.)

5. What reason does Sempronis give for the uselessness of this explanation?

6. Would a Roman soldier, specially trained in execution, be unable to tell a live body from a dead one?

7. Also consider what you read in Acts. Would a Roman soldier be so sloppy as to call a live man dead when that mistake would mean his own execution?

8. Read some more rebuttals of the Swoon Theory: http://www.gotquestions.org/swoon-theory.html

9. Why do you think the Sempronis was so against telling the truth about what they saw?

10. What would you have done?

11. Read about the actual event: Matthew 28:1-15.
