SESSION X
Dr. Johll Moossy: What was the source of the embolus?
Dr. De Reuck: There was certainly occlusion of themiddle cerebral artery in four of the neurotropinand four of the placebo-treated group. We did notdissect the carotid artery completely so we cannot say,but we had general autopsy. We also had cardiac evaluation postmortem that excluded, in our view, cardiacsources.
Dr.James F. Toole: I need to know, once again, what
neurotropin is. I missed that point. How do you giveit?
Dr. De Reuck: You give it intravenously.Dr. Toole: Is it a diuretic?Dr. DeReuck: No, it is on the market in Japan. It is a
biological extract and that is the main problem. It isnot specifically for edema; it is an anti-inflammatorydrug, but it has an effect as it blocks the kinin. It hasbeen tried in brain edema and has been shown to haveeffect.
