applicability of Termsthese advertising terms shall apply to all print, online and e-mail Advertisements (“Advertisements”) that are submitted to science, and which science accepts for publication. For the purposes of these terms & conditions, “science” shall refer to all publications with the science imprimatur, including print and online versions of Science, Science Signaling and Science Translational Medicine. the Advertiser, by submitting an Advertisement to science, agrees to be bound by these terms & conditions. “Advertiser” shall be defined to include any agent, broker, or other intermediary submitting an Advertisement, as well as the ultimate customer whose products or services are advertised in the Advertisement. An Advertiser’s standard terms and conditions shall not apply.

Science advertising StandardsAll ads submitted for publication must comply with applicable u.s. and international laws, and may not be indecent, obscene, or defamatory. All advertising is subject to science’s approval. science reserves the right to refuse any advertisement at its sole discretion for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation for offensive or inappropriate content.

advertising SpecificationsAll accepted Advertisements must comply with the relevant advertising specifications. For example, online advertising specifications are available at http://www.sciencemag.org/help/advertisers/ Science_online_ad_Specs.pdf. science has the right to request or to make changes to an Advertisement to the extent it reasonably believes necessary to comply with the can-spam Act and/or federal or state advertising laws. this includes, without limitation and by way of example only, by modifying the subject line of an e-mail advertisement or adding an “AdvertiseMent” label to content that appears to be editorial in nature.

Payment Termscurrent advertising rates apply, and may be changed by science at any time with notice. credit approval must be completed prior to placement of first insertion, or prepayment will be required. Where credit has been approved, Advertiser agrees to pay net 30 days. Payments are accepted via check, wire transfer, and credit card (Mastercard, visA, American express). A penalty of 1.5% per month accrues after 60 days. Prepayment discounts are available and are based on number of prepaid insertions per calendar year. Prepayment must be paid in u.s. dollars via wire transfer or a check drawn on u.s. bank. Prepayment discounts are 10% for prepayment of 12 or more insertions, 5% for 6 to 11 insertions, and 3% for 3 to 5 insertions. Prepayment discounts are not available for credit card payments. earned rates for product display ads are based on the number of print insertions placed within one calendar year regardless of size.

An agency commission of 15% applies to all display ads submitted with digital proofs and paid within 30 days. this is not applicable to Marketplace ads, business reply cards, and/or outserts.

Advertising Terms & ConditionscancellationWritten cancellation of order must be received at least three weeks prior to issue date to avoid billing. no cancellation, including those sent via fax, will be accepted without written acknowledgement from Science confirming receipt.

Any order canceled after the issue deadline stated in the editorial calendar will incur the full insertion cost. Late delivery of materials may incur forfeiture of space at full cost.

in service of this mission, AAAs offers programs focused on science policy, international cooperation, science education, diversity and inclusion, and career development for scientists. When you advertise with us, not only are you reaching the qualified scientists you need, you are also supporting AAAs and its many programs. Your advertising dollars help sustain efforts including the following:

Project 2061 AAAs founded Project 2061 in 1985 to help all Americans become literate in science, mathematics, and technology. its work has earned the project a reputation as the “single most visible attempt at science education reform in American history” (organization of economic cooperation and development, 1996). or, as journalist Julia steiny recently described in the Providence Journal, “Project 2061 is the ultimate science project.” through groundbreaking research and innovative books, cd-roMs, and professional development workshops, Project 2061 is changing the way educators and members of the public think about the priorities and purposes of science, math, and technology education.

r&D budget and Policy Program since 1976, the r&d Budget and Policy Program has been providing timely, comprehensive, as well as independent analyses of r&d funding trends in the federal budget as a service to the science, engineering, and policy making communities.

Science and human rights Program the AAAs science and Human rights Program (sHrP) works with scientists to “advance science and serve society” through human rights. the program carries out its mission by engaging individual scientists and scientific associations in human rights efforts; applying scientific tools and technologies to enhance human rights work; bringing human rights standards to the conduct of science; and promoting the human right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress.

Science and Technology Policy fellows the fellowships help to establish and nurture critical links between federal decision makers and scientific professionals to support public policy that benefits the well-being of the nation and the planet. the fellowships are designed to: educate scientists and engineers on the intricacies of federal policy making; provide scientific expertise and analysis to support decision makers confronting increasingly complex scientific and technical issues; foster positive exchange between scientists and policy makers; empower scientists and engineers to conduct policy-relevant research as well as other activities that address challenges facing society; and increase the involvement as well as visibility of scientists and engineers in the public policy realm.

Since 1848, aaaS and its journal Science have worked to advance science and serve society.
