AFRICAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMYA world-class pan-African leadership institution in Johannesburg

OUR LEADERSHIPDEVELOPMENT MODELAfrican Leadership Academy (ALA)seeks to transform Africa bydeveloping a powerful network of over6,000 leaders who will work togetherto address Africa’s greatestchallenges, achieve extraordinarysocial impact, and accelerate thecontinent’s growth trajectory.

ALA’s leadership development modelcan be distilled into three essentialcomponents:

How We Develop the NextGeneration of African LeadersWe believe that Africa’s greatest need is ethical and entrepreneurialleadership. Too often, we only invest in addressing the symptoms of poorleadership in Africa: we give blankets, food, and medicine to thoseimpacted by war, poverty, and famine. But these efforts will never stopunless we develop leaders who prevent wars, entrepreneurs who createjobs, and innovators that develop lasting solutions to the root causes ofAfrica’s problems.

African Leadership Academy was founded with five beliefs that drove thedesign of our model. We believe that to create lasting change in Africa, it isnecessary to make investments to treat causes and not just the symptomsof problems - and that the greatest root cause of Africa’s challenges is anundersupply of leadership.

We believe that individual leaders can unleash massive positive change insociety and that many great leaders start on their journey at a young age.We believe that a pan-African approach is required to catalyze growth anddevelopment in Africa and that Africa requires entrepreneurial leadersacross all sectors who will throw off the constraints of existing institutionsto enable lasting transformation.

Through our two-year pre-university Diploma Programand a suite of short-term Global Programs, we employthe tools of critical inquiry, design thinking andexperiential learning to develop a generation ofentrepreneurial leaders for Africa and the world.

PotentialWe comb the continentseeking young Africanswith the potential forleadership.
