From Father Andrew Infanger, Associate Pastor

Greetings, This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. We might call today the "birthday of the Church". The name Pentecost means 50 days - we celebrate it 50 days after Easter, 10 days after the Ascension Thursday. Pentecost is one of the few days in our liturgical year where our liturgical texts offer us a reading that is NOT from sacred scripture. We call this a "sequence" and it is Sung before we

proclaim the Gospel. It is a type of Spiritual poetry. We have several of them in use - on Corpus Christi, Easter, The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, and Pentecost. In one line of the Pentecost Sequence, we hear a simple phrase which speaks to the simplicity and power of the Holy Spirit. It says "Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill;" The beginning of the spiritual life for most of us, or the renewal of a spiritual life which has grown cold, is recognizing where we are stubborn and frozen. If we say to ourselves, "I'm not stubborn" then we probably are! If we say to ourselves, "I have nothing in me that needs the warmth of the Spirit", we probably do! Once we recognize these things, we must have the courage to welcome the Holy Spirit into these places.

An attitude like this is always less glamorous, less pragmatic, and much more hidden than someone who wants to change the world. How sad it is to think of the many Christians who do not avail themselves to the warmth of the Holy Spirit, like drawing close to a fire on a cold winter evening. Their faith becomes more akin to taking out the garbage on a Thursday Morning or going to a grocery story after work - a routine that quickly loses any sense of meaning. This Pentecost, ask the Holy Spirit to enter in and to the corners of your heart that are still too frozen and stubborn to let in the love of Jesus. Name those places by name in your heart, or even aloud, and say, "Come holy spirit." Too often we equate the Church and our faith with our own actions. Saint Paul says that " the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words." It takes real courage to ask the Holy Spirit to enter in and change our way of seeing a situation in our life, particularly one we have resigned ourselves to. If we fail to do this though, then we have given up. Today, let's say, "Come Holy Spirit" -Father Andrew

Dear Parishioners of Saint Frances Cabrini and Saint Mary’s Immaculate Conception: I am writing to let you know that I have made the decision recently to step down from my role at Saint Frances Cabrini and Saint Mary's Immaculate Conception. I have a great love for our West Bend parishes, but God has placed on my heart a deep desire to be closer to my family. As many of you are aware, there has been a lot going on back in Minnesota these last few months! I have recently accepted a similar job at a parish in Saint Paul,

MN. I expect my last day at the parishes to be around July 15th. Thank you for the past seven years! You have all helped me to live out my faith much deeper - for that I am so grateful! Thanks also for putting up with me with all my faults and mistakes along the way too. I have learned so much from my time in West Bend. It has been a privilege to walk with everyone through the highs and lows of life. Please pray that we are able to receive some great resumes as the new position was posted this week. I’m confident that God has a great plan for our parishes! In Christ, Katie Schaitberger

Why so many envelopes? The parish office has received many questions about the new offertory envelopes that are being mailed to Saint Frances Cabrini members. As Father Nathan mentioned in a letter that was sent with the new offertory envelopes, the parish has started using a new envelope service provider – Our Sunday Visitor. Although more envelopes are being sent, the cost to the parish for envelopes has decreased. Please feel free to use the envelopes to make weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, or annual contributions – whatever works best for you. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to transition from our previous envelope provider.

Dear Saint Frances Cabrini Parish: The Roeber family would like to thank and acknowledge the kindness and charity of all who have gifted, ministered, and served us since Mike's passing. We are deeply grateful for the prayers and generosity of the parish family and the entire West Bend Community.

-Mary Roeber and Family

Please pray for the safety of Barbara Craighead, Dave Kohlmann, Mikayla Craighead and Nick Goettl as they travel this week to Mishawaka, IN to serve in their community with Catholic Heart Work Camp.
