• Any occurance that causes damage-Ecological disruption -Loss of human life-Deterioration of health & health service -On a large scale warrant an extra ordinary

response from outside the affected community area

• Search, rescue & first aid• Field care -injured person for medical care -bed availabilty & surgical care -food & shelter -victim identification & adequate mortuary

• to sort for• Rapidly classifying the injured on the basis of

the severity of their injuries & the likelihood of survival with prompt medical care

• 4 categories

• Tagging-place,triage category• Identification of dead -removal from site -shifting to mortuary -idendity

Relief phase

• Assistance from outside reach the site• Food, water, blankets, shelter, engineering,

sanitary equipement.• Epidemiological Surveillance & disease control

is carried out.

• Over crowding & poor sanitation• Population displacement• Disrupton & contamination of water supply• Ecological changes→vector breeding • Zoonosis• Emergency food,water & shelter

• Gastro entritis• Acute RTI• Vector borne disease• zoonosis

• Aim to reduce the vulnerability of systems• Improving structure of houses, schools, etc

• A program• Long term activities whose goals are to

strengthen the capability of a country to manage efficiently all type of emergencies

Personal protection & measures

• Do not use telephone except to call for help• Listen to msg broadcast by radio & various

media• Carry out the official instructions given • Keep the emergency kit ready
