This historical movement amongst Americans with disabilities has now begun to be documented.
The field of Disability Studies has been forged by many over the years.
The Disability Studies Program was founded by Diane Bryen and Sieglinde Shapiro in 1989

Documenting Documenting Systemic BiasSystemic Bias
Activists in Chicago worked with the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
• Their study showed that nearly 50% of hearing impaired people using text-telephone systems to search for apartments encountered adverse treatment.
• One third of wheelchair users visiting rental properties experienced adverse treatment.

South Jersey singer-songwriter Melody Gardot took the 'stage' at our November 2, 2006 Disability Studies Meetup. She performed material from her first two albums and spoke about her emerging understanding of herself, her abilities, and her disabilities.
