ISSUE 143 February 2019
Welcome to our Activity Guide!
Dirigo Pines 9 Alumni Drive,
Orono, Maine 04473 (207) 866-3400
Professionally managed by Grace Management
From the Desk of the Executive Director… In hopes of communicating better with all residents, I will be incorporating a little bit of news into each monthly newsletter. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. In newsy news…we will be replacing the carpeting in the main dining room soon. We will wait until it warms up a bit so that the environment will be more conducive for both residents and workers. Stay tuned to see samples of options that will be presented to us from our vendor. As many of you are aware, to help reduce contamina-tion and to support keeping everyone healthy, we are now serving the brunch buffet on Sundays. This is a new process for both residents and staff, so we hope all will be patient as the staff “gets into their groove!” We will be asking residents to provide us with sugges-tions/comments on how we can serve you better. While not all suggestions or comments can be acted upon, we will do the best we can. The suggestion/comment box for inde-pendents can be found in the dining room area. Please ask staff if you cannot find this. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and are looking forward to what 2019 has in store.
—Paula

Emera Astronomy Center Outing Faster Than Light
The impulse to strike out into the un-known, to see what’s over the horizon… is
as old as humanity. Today, a whole new horizon beckons. Astronomers are racing to find habitable worlds, including any that
might exist in the neighborhood of our Sun. But if we find one, how will we ever
get there? How long will it take? What rocket designs might one day conquer the voids of space? Take a virtual ride aboard spacecraft of the future based on whole
new technologies designed to achieve ultra‐high speeds, which might provide ways to
travel to new worlds. Cost is $5
