QP—Getting and Maintaining Alignment

The QP WIB October 11, 2016 Volume 1, Issue 8

Quonset Point Teammates -

Over the next few months we will be

meeting with teams and crews across

the organization to share and get

aligned on the key strategic priorities

and actions that will improve perfor-

mance and ensure our ongoing success

at Quonset Point.

It is critical that we get clear on how

everyone in the organization plays a

role in our future, and what actions and

behaviors are needed to drive results

and deliver on our mission.

In a sense, QP/EB is like an automobile.

In order for you (the Driver) to achieve

maximum performance, all of the car’s

parts need to be in alignment. Not just

your four tires, which must be balanced

and properly inflated and respond to

your direction through the steering

wheel, but also your engine and brakes

which must communicate with the tires

when you hit the gas or tap the brake

pedal. When all these systems are work-

ing efficiently and in concert, you can

gain speed and maintain control and get

to where you are going.

But let’s not kid ourselves. Cars, like

organizations, get out of alignment and

need tune-ups. Getting and staying

aligned is difficult and requires continu-

ous effort and engagement with all of

the players in the organization. Internal

and external conditions change. Spark

plugs corrode, brake pads wear out,

engines fail, windshields crack and the

driver must repair or replace these parts

to regain peak performance. Outside

weather conditions and highways dete-

riorate but you make adjustments to

stay on the road and keep moving in the

right direction. The same holds true for

QP, where the market environment is

shifting, internal capabilities fluctuate

or deteriorate and key people move up

or on and we must respond together to

maintain alignment.

Alignment isn’t a destination or finish

line---it’s an unending journey that we

need to travel together.

So, as we work to ensure renewed

alignment across QP, we will be sharing

more about our key strategic priorities.

More importantly, we will be asking for

your reactions to them. What excites

you about them? What is clear, or not

clear? How do the priorities impact

your role, and engage you to do your

best work? In order to be successful,

we want and need your thinking, your

energy and your feedback to bring this

alignment to life.

Offer to EB Employees, Family Members, is for this Saturday, October 15

As part of the community partnership between Electric Boat and Mystic Sea-

port, EB employees and up to three immediate family members will be admit-

ted to the Seaport at no charge Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To take advantage of this generous offer, employees must present their badg-

es at the admission gate. If you’re bringing more than three family members,

the additional members can obtain passes at a 25 percent discount.

EB’s partnership with the Seaport includes financial support, which enables

Groton and New London students to participate in the museum’s STEM activities and Force in Motion

learning program.

Mystic Seaport is the nation’s leading maritime museum. Founded in 1929 to gather and preserve artifacts of

America’s seafaring past, the Museum has grown to become a national center for research and education.

A stroll through the historic village transports visitors back to the mid-1800s where they can experience first

-hand from staff historians, storytellers, musicians, and craftspeople just what it was like to earn a living

from the sea.

Golf Tournament

2016

Dear QP Team Mates, The 14th annual Justin Laverdiere Memorial Golf Tournament to ben-efit The Tomorrow Fund was held on September 24th at Chemawa CC in North Attleboro, MA. The tournament was full once again with 112 golfers participating. Through the efforts of all who participated which included EBQP/ECSA and fellow QP cowork-ers who golfed this year, we expect to exceed last year’s record total. More donations are still coming in and a follow up notification on final amounts will come out within the next several weeks. We wish to thank you on supporting TTF in our son Justin’s memory and supporting the families of children with cancer in their daily lives. Forever Grateful, Marilyn & Blake Laverdiere
