IN presenting the Batavia Directory for 1880 to the public, ithe publisher begs leave to say' that, with all the care taken inthe enumeration, a few omissions have been made; but it i3 saidthat " misery loves company," so there is some satisfaction in(stating that, though the Directory does not contain all the namesit should, it does contain names of citizens not obtained by-thecensus enumerators.

One trouble experienced in the preparation of this editionis the irregular numbering on some of the streets, duplicatenumbers in several cases, and many streets and avenues with-out any attempt at numbering. It is hoped that measures maybe taken, in the proposed revision of the village charter, to pro-vide for an accurate and complete numbering of the buildingsand lots within the corporate limits.

The Directory of 1877 contained 1,238 names; the Directoryof 1880 contains 1,689 names; increase 451. It is a matter ofpride to call attention to the evidence of prosperity shown bythe above figures, the growth of Batavia being solid and healthy.
