Now it's time for you to play the Invertebrate Video Quiz-Game. The Quiz is fun, and it's a great way for you to show how much you know about the wonderful world of invertebrates.

There are five questions. I'll start each one by thinking of something to do with invertebrates. Then I'll give you some clues. After you hear them, decide what I'm thinking about, and then write your answer.

That's all there is to the Quiz-Game, so good luck and let's get started!

#1 I'm thinking about something that is part of a dog's skeleton, and that makes it a vertebrate.

What am I thinking about?_______________________

#2 I'm thinking about a kind of cell that jellyfish have, and that they use to catch food.

What term am I thinking about?______________________

#3 This time I'm thinking about invertebrates that help farmers, and that live in the soil.

What am I thinking about? ______________________

#4 I'm thinking about something that all arthropods have, and that is part of their limbs.

What am I thinking about?______________________

#5 This time I'm thinking about the part of an arthropod's body that helps to protect them, and prevents them from drying out.

What am I thinking about? ______________________

DIRECTIONS: Select an invertebrate. Pretend that you work in the zoo and that it is your job to prepare the exhibit labels. Labels should include a picture that you draw, find in a magazine, or from the Internet.

Use this sheet to collect your information as you conduct your research at the library, zoo, museum, or the Internet. You can use a blank sheet of paper to design your finished label.

You are an investigator in search of invertebrates. Try to find at least one invertebrate from each of the environments listed below. Use Blackline Master #7b to document the information on each invertebrate you find.

1) Choose an environments to conduct your observation.

2) Bring the proper tools, a magnifying glass, gloves, boots, or shovel. You may have to dig, turn over rocks, look behind or under objects, be as clever as you can so you don't miss any invertabrates, no matter how clever or small they may be.

3) Name and draw a picture, or describe what they look like.

4) Include information about where you found that invertebrate, the time of day, the weather.

5) Explain what skills were needed to find the invertebrate.
