CURRENTLY….
Majority of iPads are well past their use by date
Thin clients are coming out of warranty and are not providing a stable platform for teachers to work on
Apple TVs are not working consistently with devices and rooms – most teachers are finding they need to be tied to the cord to be able to use projection
Load on computer labs is excessive – particularly when assessment is due
Speed and reliability of thin clients lacking
Viability of iPad as a ‘one stop shop’ for teacher
Consistency of Apple TV in the classroom
Unable to print from iPad without using Citrix
Compatibility of Apple platform with Windows platform (Pages, Keynote)
Projection issues – there is currently no reliable system available that will stream video – staff will continued to be encouraged to use cords for this

Based on the number of responses this is a sample group and the assumption has been made that this is indicative across the board
PROPOSED STUDENT DEVICES For your information but separate to today’s discussion –
NO DECISIONS WILL BE MADE UNTIL PARENT CONSULTATION HAS TAKEN PLACE
5-6 – Netbook device (smaller, cheaper version of laptop – cheaper than iPad currently required)
7-9 – Laptop
10 – 12 Laptop or Netbook (dependant on pathway)
Tablet style device (touch screen with detachable keyboard, usb inputs) to enable similar functionality of ipad but in a windows environment and allow the device to also function as a laptop

Loss of access to Apple Apps
Windows apps available but limited range
Updates and software to be provided through management software – limited need to take your device to IT for upgrades, software
No need for iPad adaptors – cords to connect to projectors available in all rooms – use VGA / Computer option on Control Panel
Reliable connection – no need for Citrix
Ability to work off-site (Panel, PD)
