3 DIRECT LINK TOOLS
It is important to understand the difference between Onboard and Direct Link Tools that will be use on your GapGun MX+.
TOOLKITS
The tool being used is not on the GapGun MX+ handle. The tool is being used from SPC3d6 in Direct Link Mode. With Roaming mode the tools are Onboard Tools.
Note: This document is for Direct Link Mode. The tools and checkplans you will use are being used from SPC3d6.
See D11-603 ‘GapGun MX+ Roaming Mode Operator Guide’ for Local Tools and settings.
RESULTS
The above image shows the ID of the measurement, the Serial Number of the measurement Cycle, the name of the Virtual Tool used, ‘GAPFLUSH\VCRAD’ and finally the results from the measurement, in this case Gap & Flush.
A basic profile display appears in the centre of the screen. A more detailed view is displayed in SPC3d.
In Roaming Mode the level of detail required on the handle is higher as you are not connected to SPC3d6.

For further help please see your administrator or contact [email protected].
ENTER A VIN NUMBER
Some checkplans will require you to enter a unique number to identify the measurement cycle. In this case you will need to enter a VIN number.

MEASURING WITH A CHECKPLAN
You are now in the checkplan. This is the first measurement section to be taken. The screen gives a graphical image of where to measure i.e. which section. The tool is automatically set by the checkplan. The operator has to measure this point and then the checkplan moves onto the next measurement point.
This checkplan is a learning aid (ideal if you actually have a Smart Car), designed to help take measurements and understand checkplans.
ACCEPT & EXIT
Once the ‘Master’ has been completed the operator can save the data. The data is saved to the PC using the VIN number entered earlier as a reference.
You will then be able to move onto the next ‘Master’ and continue measuring.
Note: Additional data may be generated and/or printed at this point depending on your administrators’ checkplan settings. This is unique to ‘Direct Link Mode’ and not available in ‘Roaming Mode’.
For further help please see your administrator or contact [email protected].
CANCEL
The operator also has the option to cancel the measurements.

5 CALIBRATION CHECKPLANS
These checkplans are meant as a means to check that your GapGun MX+ is measuring correctly and within tolerance.
The results from the measurements should match those on your calibration artefact. Each calibration artefact is specific to a
GapGun MX+ head, so the results should match those on your artefact. If the results of your calibration artefact check do not
match those on the artefact please contact Third Dimension [email protected].
There are two different types of calibration artefact.
CALIBRATION PIN GAUGE
This is used to check the calibration of the FOV7 head.
CALIBRATION BLOCK
This is used to check the calibration of the FOV15, FOV40 and FOV80 heads.
For calibration checkplans for all heads please refer to Document ‘GapGun MX+ Roaming Mode Operator Guide’ D11-603.

When the GapGun MX+ is connected to a PC running SPC3d6 these options are made available. Any Checkplan created in
SPC3d6 and saved on the PC will be available to use from SPC3d6 via the GapGun MX+ handle. Once the checkplan has been
opened along with any specific tools associated with that checkplan, the GapGun MX+ will use SPC3d6 to measure and record
measurement data in Direct Link Mode.
Please see Document D11-635 ‘GapGun MX+ Data Transfer Operator Guide’ for further help with data transfer.
For further help please see your administrator or contact [email protected].
9 LINKING TO SPC3D VIA LAN OR WI-FI
