Cirque Chinois 2012 was founded as the Wuhan Circus of China in 1953, making it one of the longest running and most distinguished circus troupes in China.
Cirque Chinois is especially acclaimed in China because of the unique acts in their program such as Great Teeterboard, Grand Flying Trapeze, Group Contortion, Straw Hats Juggling, Girls’ Balance with Bowls and many other outstanding acts.
Many of the Artists in the troupe have won international awards including Ms. Li Liping, the first Golden Clown winner from China, at the renowned Monte Carlo International Circus Festival and Madame Xia Juhua, the “Chinese Ulanowa” of the Circus World and Chairwoman of the International Chinese Circus Society since the early 1980’s. Cirque Chinois as a Company has won over twenty Gold and Silver medals and various other awards at international circus festivals including the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival, Cirque de Demain, Wuqiao International Circus Festival, Wuhan International Circus Festival and China National Acrobatic Competition.
The contribution Cirque Chinois has made to the world circus society is profound. During the 1980s, the Company started to change the concept of the “animal circus” to a new style of “non-animal circus” which influenced the then pioneers of “Cirque de Soleil.”
The Midland performance is part of their inaugural Coast to Coast tour of the United States and Canada.

Donations as of September 27, 2012
F r i e n d s o f t h e S e r i e sThese generous donors have given a gift of $1,000 or more in 2012
to sustain the great lectures and fine entertainment that have inspired and enriched us during the last fifteen years.
The Midland College Foundation created the Friends of the Series for those who wish to augment the Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series (DDLS) and the Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series (CPAS) endowments. An annual gift of $1,000 or more, per calendar year, from Friends allows the Foundation to sustain the outstanding
programs of great lectures and fine entertainment. Friends of the Series are provided special seating at all DDLS and CPAS events, as well as reserved parking and invitations to exclusive receptions.
Donations may be made by anyone interested in supporting these cultural events at Midland College.
Erin C. Tresner, Executive Director of the MC Foundation, said, “Midland College is so fortunate to have the opportunity to host such spectacular lectures and performances throughout the year for the entire Midland community to enjoy. We are humbled to have such special donors and friends who help make this possible!”
If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Series, or know someone who might be interested, please contact the Foundation at (432) 685-4526, or email [email protected].
