FAST STARTSHBU has outscored its opponents 63-32 in the first quarter. The Huskies have scored a touchdown on their opening drive three times and has led or been tied after the first period in eight of the 10 games.

RECORD YEAR FOR FRYSenior wide receiver Ethan Fry has set new HBU records for receptions (36) and yards (451) with a pair of touchdowns and is the Huskies’ all-time leader with 96 catches for 1,343 yards. On Nov. 4, he posted the second 100-plus yard receiving perfor-mance in school history with 111 at #17 Nicholls.

BROWN’S BREAKOUTFreshman running back James Brown recorded the sixth 100-plus-yard rushing performance, carrying 14 times for 118 yards and a touchdown in a 24-17 victory over Texas Southern. He opened the Huskies’ final drive with a 34-yard gain, then capped it with a 33-yard touchdown run that essentially put the game away. Brown earned STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week honorable mention for his performance.

PRESEASON ACCOLADESSenior linebacker Garrett Dolan, who ranked second in the nation in tackles last year to earn AP and STATS FC All-America honors, has been named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team, the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List for the nation’s top defensive player, the College Football Yearbook FCS Starting Lineup and was a Southland Preseason All-Conference First-Team selection. Dolan has made 510 career tackles and is a three-time All-Southland pick.

ORIGINAL 13HBU has 13 fifth-year seniors who have been with the program since it’s beginning: Terrell Brown III, Tyler Brown, Garrett Dolan, Ethan Fry, Danny Garza, Christian Guzman, Tyler Helaire, Austin Holley, B.J. Kelly, Kameron Lecoq, Cody Moncure, Eduardo Osegueda and Taylor Thompson.

Texas State 20, HBU 11 w Sept. 2 w Bobcat StadiumSAN MARCOS, Texas – HBU held a 9-0 lead after the first quarter over an FBS foe, but Texas State scored 20 unanswered points to claim a 20-11 victory in the football season opener Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium. True freshman quarterback Bailey Zappe completed 21-of-34 passes for 199 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions for HBU (0-1). Senior running back Terrance Peters rushed 12 times for 53 yards and the Huskies’ lone touchdown, but did not play in the second half after leaving the game with an injury. Freshman receiver Dennis Houston made seven catches for 73 yards, while senior Ethan Fry had four receptions for 62 yards. Senior linebacker Cody Moncure led the Huskies with 11 tackles, sophomore defensive end Andre Walker made nine, including a safety, and senior linebacker Garrett Dolan added seven stops. Junior defensive end Johnavhon Graaham recovered a fumble forced by senior safety Taylor Thompson and sophomore safety Nicholas Smith made an interception. Damian Williams completed 18-of-28 passes with no touchdowns and an interception, while also rushing 13 times for 43 yards and a score for the Bobcats (1-0). Anthony Smith carried the ball seven times for 71 yards and a touchdown. Elijah King was the leading receiver for Texas State with four catches for 85 yards. Ishmael Davis led the Bobcats with nine tackles, while A.J. Krawczyk and Bryan London each made seven. Texas State sacked Zappe five times, with two by Easy Anyama. The Bobcats gained 155 yards on the ground, while holding the Huskies to 59 yards. HBU held the advantage in time of possession, holding the ball for 31:15, while Texas State had it for 28:45. Senior running back Terrance Peters led the Huskies (1-2, 0-1 SLC) with 63 yards on eight carries. Freshman quarterback Bailey Zappe completed 7-of-20 passes for 34 yards and an interceptions, while sophomore Jack Swensen completed 4-of-8 for 26 yards and an interception. Senior linebacker Garrett Dolan, the FCS’s active leader in total tackles, broke his own single-game school record with 19 stops. Sophomore safety Nicholas Smith added 12 and made his second interception of the season. Junior cornerback Raphael Lewis, senior linebacker Cody Moncure and sophomore defensive end Andre Walker each had seven tackles. Dallas Sealey completed 28-of-38 passes for 195 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed for 46 yards for ACU (1-2, 1-0). Tracy James carried 10 times for 56 yards and De’Andre Brown rushed for 25 yards and a score. Senior wide receiver Ethan Fry caught eight passes for 55 yards and true freshman Dennis Houston made five receptions for 50 yards, as Zappe completed passes to nine different receivers. Senior linebacker Garrett Dolan led the Huskies defensively with 11 tackles, three for a loss and two quarterback hurries. Junior David Racine’s lone catch was a 78-yard touchdown in the third quarter and junior tight end Tyler Kelly made his first career reception, hauling in a 33-yard pass. Senior linebackers Garrett Dolan and Cody Moncure led the Huskies with 12 tackles each, with senior defensive tackler Tyler Helaire adding six. Junior linebacker Kyle Bowling made four stops and recovered a fumble and senior defensive end Terrell Brown made an interception. Austin 27, HBU 10 w Oct. 21 w Homer Bryce StadiumNACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU’s senior linebacker duo of Garrett Dolan and Cody Moncure had standout performances, but the Huskies’ offense was stifled as SFA pulled away for a 27-10 victory in Southland Conference football Saturday afternoon at Homer Bryce Stadium. Dolan tied his own school record with 19 tackles, while Moncure had seven tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery for HBU (1-6, 0-5 SLC). Junior cornerback Raphael Lewis added 12 tackles and sophomore safety Nicholas Smith had nine. Senior defensive end Taaron Timmons and junior linebacker Kyle Bowling joined Moncure seven tackles. Redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Haidet completed 4-of-11 passes for 70 yards, rushed for 15 yards and scored the Huskies’ lone touchdown on a one-yard plunge. After Haidet left the game in the first quarter with an injury, sophomore Jack Swensen completed 4-of-7 passes. True freshman Bailey Zappe played the entire second half and went 15-for-24 for 146 yards and threw an interception. Freshman receiver Dennis Houston made six catches for 69 yards and senior Isaiah Hall made four catches for 58 yards. Jake Blumrick completed 24-of-34 passes for 221 yards and an interceptions for SFA (3-5, 3-2). Kijana Amous rushed 16 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns and added seven receptions for 102 yards. Juan Day rushed seven times for 72 yards and a touchdown, while Tamrick Pace made five catches for 38 yards. Aaron Foy led the Lumberjacks with seven tackles and had an interception. Senior running back Terrance Peters carried 24 times for 85 yards and caught four passes for 14 yards, including the touchdown for HBU (1-7, 0-6 SLC). Freshman quarterback Bailey Zappe completed 16-of-24 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. Freshman receiver Dennis Houston made three catches for 34 yards and Ethan Fry had three for 30 yards. Senior linebacker Garrett Dolan made 11 tackles, while senior linebacker Cody Moncure had seven and junior cornerback Raphael Lewis and senior cornerback Dominique Barnett made six apiece. HBU freshman quarterback Bailey Zappe completed 9-of-20 passes for a touchdown and two interceptions, while also carrying 12 times 80 yards for the Huskies (1-8, 0-7 SLC). Senior wide receiver Ethan Fry caught seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, the second 100-plus yard receiving performance in school history. Senior linebacker Garrett Dolan made 16 tackles, with his sixth tackle of the game marking the 500th of his career. Sophomore defensive end Andre Walker had 10 tackles and half a sack while Raphael Lewis had eight tackles and came up with his third interception of the season. Fourcade completed 20-of40 passes for 254 yards, a touchdown and an interception for the Colonels (7-2, 6-1). Dontrell Taylor rushed 24 times for 103 yards and a touchdown and Kyran Irvin rushed 17 times for 61 yards.
