    We understand that every students educational needs are different. Thats why we have

    created our courses in such a way that you will be well prepared to handle the dynamic

    requirements of the art and design industries when you graduate. Our modular course

    structure offers you maximum exibility while giving you the opportunity to pursue

    cross-disciplinary modules. Because we know, gaining a broader perspective and

    Complete your degree in 4 years

    Our three-year diploma courses are integrated seamlessly with the Bachelor of Arts

    degree (with Honours programme). This means that after youve completed your GCE

    O or A levels, you can immediately start working your way towards a degree and

    prepare yourself for a rewarding artistic career.

    The future is bright for your career

    NAFA alumni can expect a brilliant head start to their career. In a survey conducted in

    2010, our diploma and degree holders commanded a starting monthly salary of S$1,600

    and S$2,000 respectively. They also typically gained employment within three months

    of graduation. Whats more, over 90% of our graduates secured jobs in their preferred

    elds related to their course of studies.

    Loughborough

    University (LU)

    Loughborough University was originally

    founded in 1909 as Loughborough

    Technical Institute, later known as

    Loughborough College. In 1966, theCollege of Technology received its Royal

    Charter and became Loughborough

    University of Technology. In 1998, the

    university amalgamated with the College

    of Art and Design.

    Loughborough University is a centre

    of excellence in teaching and learning,

    research and enterprise, and is one of the

    top-rated universities in the UK. It won the

    Times Higher Best Student Experience

    Award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009,

    as voted for by students themselves.

    Loughborough University has also won six

    Queens Anniversary Prizes for Higher and

    Further Education the most prestigious

    The University of Essex

    (Essex)

    The University of Essex, as the validation

    partner, is one of the UKs leading

    academic institutions. Founded in 1964,

    it has grown in both fame and size rapidly,

    developing a worldwide reputation for

    top quality teaching and research. In the

    2008 national assessment, it was ranked

    9th out of 159 universities and colleges

    for the quality of i ts research and

    top in the social sciences while the

    quality of teaching was ranked 8th in the2008 Sunday Times University Guide, as

    well as the ranking of the 15th in UK for

    overall student experience (Times Higher

    Education, January 2010).

    East 15 Acting School, one of the 18

    academic departments within the four

    faculties of the University of Essex,

    has a 40-year history as one of the

    UKs most innovative drama schools.

    It has trained some of the UKs most

    well-known faces from TV, theatre and

    lm, including Alison Steadman, Mike

    Leigh, Billy Elliot, as well as Oscar

    nominee Stephen Daldry, etc.

    East 15 Acting School has a range

    of structured undergraduate and

    postgraduate schemes in actor-training,

    Purchase College, State University of

    New York (SUNY), founded by Governor

    Music (RCM)

    Founded in 1882, the Royal Collegeof Music enjoys a reputation as one of

    The programmes at RCM enable students

    to develop musical skills, knowledge,

    The Colleges inuence on the

    development of music in the last

    100 years is incalculable. Through its

    Singapore Institute of

    (UniSIM)

    SIM University (UniSIM) is the only

    Diploma in 3D Design

    The Diploma in 3D Design fosters

    creative thinking, integrative practice and

    technical competency. As a student in this

    department, you will be provided a multi-

    disciplinary learning experience

    with a global perspective; you will

    acquire knowledge that is applicable

    across disciplines and relevant to all

    aspects of 3D design which varies

    from personal (product) to public

    (environment) domains. Studio practice

    is a key component to your learning,

    supported by a range of subjects that

    form the basic structure of this course.

    Environmental Design Major

    This major study in Environmental

    Design involves our constructed external

    environment mainly Landscape and

    Architecture. The scope of Landscape

    and Architecture is presented as a single

    non-segregated discipline.

    Through studio sessions, tutorials and

    projects, you will be trained to develop

    skills in design concept creation, aesthetic

    appreciation and keen understanding

    of technology.

    What can you expect upon completion

    Exhibition Design Major

    When you choose to major in Exhibition

    Design, you will learn to conceptualise

    Furniture Design MajorAs Furniture Design evolves with shifts in

    culture, technology and trends, there is

    a growing need to investigate emerging

    challenges that these changes will bring.

    This course will push you to explore and

    experience the process and spectrum of

    Furniture Design as functional objects of

    space, as well as interaction expression,

    cultural icons and symbols of emotions

    in the context of personal, public or

    commercial environment.

    You will develop competencies in

    analysis, design synthesis, judgment,

    articulation of concepts and

    communication of ideas in furniture

    design within the spatial context.

    The course includes prototyping,

    ergonomics and knowledge in industrial

    fabrication and production, and

    marketing. Minors in Interior Design

    Interior Design Major

    Principles and theories of design in

    residential, commercial, corporate

    and hospitality design are yours to

    explore, master and apply in this

    Interior Design Major.

    Through addressing the knowledge

    required to create exceptional spaces,

    you will gain a strong grounding in

    understanding spatial relationship, by

    developing sensitivity and appropriate

    responses to human behaviour, site

    and purpose. To further enhance your

    understanding of various aspects of

    spatial typology, you will undertake

    minors in Furniture Design and

    Exhibition Design.

    Jewellery Design Major

    As you seek unique design solutions, you

    will learn to execute your ideas with skill

    and ingenuity with this Jewellery DesignMajor, which emphasises the design

    process, techniques of material nishing

    and production practice. You will be

    encouraged to master special techniques

    such as enameling, repousse and casting.

    In the process, you will also work with

    various metals, gems and hybrid media,

    such as fabrics, resins and polymer clay

    in the exploration of material expression

    and question the inherent relationship of

    jewellery to the body.

    This studio-based programme promotes

    research, experimentation, analysis,

    evaluation, critique and lets you gradually

    develop your own personal philosophy

    and expression throughout your study.

    Object Design Major

    Dance has gained recognition as a leading

    provider of qualied dance practitioners

    for Singapores dance industry.

    We are distinctive in our contemporary

    East-West posture, focusing on Western

    and Asian dance techniques, creativeand contextual studies that include

    intercultural and multidisciplinary

    collaborative opportunities. In addition,

    we reinforce our education framework

    with rigorous practical technique training

    Today, we are set to prepare dynamic

    to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree

    BFA Dance degree programme affords

    selected NAFA Diploma in Dance

    This is a comprehensive 3-year course

    that comprises 120 credits. Students

    Diploma in Design & Media

    Building from the strengths of our two

    successful programmes from before

    Multimedia and Visual Communication

    our current diploma programme provides

    you with holistic training within the design

    and media realm.

    This integrated platform gives you the

    opportunity to explore the traditional

    design methodologies imbued with

    new media learning. Through its diverse

    curriculum, you will also be equipped with

    essential skills needed for the advertising,

    design and media industries.

    During your rst year in this programme,you will undergo a series of foundation

    Advertising

    This curriculum emphasises the

    development of conceptual skills,

    coupled with sensitivity in art direction

    and effective copywriting to produce work

    for the integrated mass media. You will be

    taught to research and strategise creative

    and innovative solutions to customise

    purposeful and effective communications

    for a variety of products, services, brands,

    and media platforms. You will also learn to

    appreciate and tap on new media to reach

    targeted audience.

    Animation

    This curriculum provides you with

    the necessary tools to animate your

    artistic vision into virtual reality. You will

    begin to learn and acquire conceptual

    and development skills, and basic

    animation principles. These will be

    further enhanced with practical skills

    on industry norm software packages to

    enable you to transform your ideas into

    2D & 3D animation. You will also learn the

    fundamentals of storytelling, video and

    sound design and editing, and character

    design and be exposed to animation

    production workow.

    Graphic Design

    This curriculum equips you with

    conceptual problem solving skills based

    on visual literacy, software competency,

    and a good foundation in aesthetic

    principles. You will gain a wealth of

    knowledge in researching and strategising

    creative and innovative solutions to

    customise purposeful and effective

    communications for a variety of products,

    services, brands, and media platforms.

    You will also learn to appreciate and tap

    on new media to reach targeted audience.

    Illustration Design

    This curriculum engages you with the

    practice of rudimentary of line, colour and

    form, and in a range of media through

    building on image development, rendering

    and ideation skills. You will apply all

    stages of design process, from initial

    sketches to presentation, and encouraged

    to develop your personal illustration style.

    Illustration projects of different genres will

    also be introduced for you to hone yourinterpretive skills in both traditional and

    digital platforms, and to develop your

    multidisciplinary problem-solving skills

    in social and cultural contexts. A host

    of complementary yet essential skills in

    design and layout, editorial publishing,

    and design and marketing will also be

    keenly developed in you.

    Interactive Media

    This curriculum introduces you to

    the principles, techniques, tools and

    processes for designing interactions

    and objects, and understanding their

    impact and importance in the world of

    digital media. You will undertake projects

    that seek to investigate the creative,

    expressive and aesthetic forms and

    content of new media and media systems,

    including the preproduction, production

    either for multi-national advertising

    agencies, design boutiques, digital

    media companies, animation and video

    entrepreneurs of their own creative outts

    Many of our spirited graduates have

    also made waves in supporting creative

    industries as independent freelancers

    Video ProductionThis curriculum stresses the practical,

    Max Tan

    A top graduate of the NAFA Fashion

    Design Diploma course, Max was

    also a winner of the Singapore Young

    Designer contest in 2007. He then joined

    Spring Singapores scheme for young

    entrepreneurship,The Incubator, and

    started his own labelmax.tan to express

    his design philosophy of soft geometry in

    clothing. In July 2010, he was one of the

    very few young international designers

    selected to showcase his works at

    Modafabriek in Amsterdam where he

    secured orders from European buyers

    who were impressed with his designs.

    Priscilla Tan

    Graduating as the top student of the

    NAFA Fashion Design Diploma course,

    Priscilla went on to garner top honour in

    the TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Fresh Graduate

    Showcase in 2007. She has since

    interned as a designer with leading

    British retailer, TOPSHOP in London.

    and sculpture. The Department of Fine

    Arts started offering a sculpture and

    western painting diploma programme

    in 1938. Now, our programmes offer an

    integrated curriculum that challenges

    notions of what art can be, fostering yourpersonal artistic growth and aesthetic

    development. Were here to give you clear

    sense of direction to make art in todays

    constantly evolving context, offering you

    the guidance and resources you need to

    discover your own voice.

    Diploma in Fine Art

    This programme gives you exposure to

    contemporary art ideas, and community

    and global relationships. Through a

    comprehensive curriculum, you will be

    theoretical study and practical skills in

    Chinese Ink Painting

    Explore different approaches and

    aesthetic appreciation in Chinese Ink

    Painting, as well as understand the brief

    history of the development of Chinese Art.

    This course will introduce you to myriad

    styles in Chinese painting.

    Sculpture

    This course analyses the principles

    of form, light, rhythm and sculpturing

    techniques in the construction of three-

    dimensional models. It places emphasis

    on encouraging you to develop skills in

    the various media and your sensibility to

    all facets of the environment, including

    possible origins for sculptural ideas.

    Installation and earth art will also

    introduce you to a wider range studies

    on spatial concepts.

    Photography

    Gain an understanding into the anatomy

    of the camera and lenses in this course.

    You will develop skills in basic cameraand darkroom techniques for black and

    white photography, familiarising yourself

    with the use of studio lighting and

    creative darkroom techniques for artistic

    A picture of inspiration

    Our alumni have fared exceptionally well

    both locally and in the international art

    scene. Their air for the extraordinary

    continue to be showcased in numerous

    exhibitions and the accolades presented

    to them.

    Most notably, our 1994 graduate,

    Ming Wong represented Singapore at

    the 53rd Venice Biennale, Italy in 2009

    with his artwork entitled: Life of Imitation.

    His participation in the show not only

    garnered him a prestigious award from

    the Biennale organiser but opened up a

    world of opportunities in countries such

    as Australia, Austria, Canada, China,

    Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, Taiwan

    and ISA.

    Graduating in 2010, Sculpture Major

    alumni, Michael Goo emerged as the

    winner of the France + Singapore New

    Generation artists (FSNGA) programmein the same year. Just one year later in

    2011, he was given a fully sponsored

    solo exhibition in Alliance Francaise

    de Singapour.

    In the same year, the distinguished 30th

    UOB Painting Of the Year Award was

    focusing on composing will have classes

    in music technology and improvisation.

    Core units in historical studies (with

    specialised pathways for Western

    or Chinese instruments), practical

    or Vocal Teaching, provide support and

    depth to your study. These specic

    studies also help you develop key skills

    in areas including communication,

    This specialised course was expressly

    created at the request of the Ministry of

    graduate with a Diploma in Music

    Teaching from NAFA, and a Diploma

    The Access Course runs from January

    each year and provides one semester

    of study for young musicians after

    secondary schools in Singapore to

    prepare them for full-time study in music.

    It is designed especially for those who

    Diploma in Theatre

    This three-year full-time course is a

    purely performance-based programme.

    The core of this vocational training

    curriculum is actor-training with four

    choose to specialise in either Mandarin

    Drama or English Drama acting.

    ENTRYREqUIREMENTS

    FOR DIPLOMAPROGRAMME

    1. General Requirements

    All applicants are required to sit for the NAFA Admission

    Test/Audition.

    Applicants unable to furnish documentary evidences

    showing that they have met the English prociency

    requirement as stipulated in Section 2.3 below are

    required to sit for the NAFA English Admission Test.

    2. Selection Criteria

    Admissions are based primarily on applicants

    scores in the NAFA Admission Test/Audition,

    educational qualications and English prociency.

    Special consideration may be given to applicants

    who marginally fail to meet some of the requirements

    but fare well in the NAFA Admission Test/Audition.

    2.1 The NAFA Admission Test/Audition

    Passing the NAFA Admission Test/Audition is a necessary

    condition for admission.

    3D Design Test

    Three papers in 2 hours and 45 minutes - object design,

    space design plus a short essay.

    Arts Management Test

    One-hour paper to test ability to express some views

    on arts.

    Dance Audition

    The audition consists of three sections - Ballet,

    Modern Dance and a solo dance performance of

    the candidates choice.

    Design & Media Test

    One paper to be completed in 3 hours on drawing and

    creative conceptualisation with a given theme.

    Fashion Design Test

    Three papers, an hour each, to design an outt, sewing

    (sewing kit will be provided) and an essay on fashion

    trends or designs.

    Fashion Merchandising & Marketing Test

    Three papers, an hour each, to design an outt, questions

    on general fashion brands and retail knowledge.

    Fine Art Test

    Two papers - Paper One (1 hour) to test on ability to draw

    from observation and Paper Two (2 hours) on creative

    visualisation.

    Music Audition

    Perform two contrasting works, scales and aural tests

    (standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade VIII) on their

    intended principal study.

    Theatre Audition

    Audition on voice, speech, body movement, singing,

    acting and improvisation plus a solo performance of the

    candidates choice.

    2.2 Educational Qualication

    The general requirement is Singapore-Cambridge

    GCE O Level with at least 4 grade-C6 or better grade

    subjects, excluding English Language, or

    International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or

    Relevant Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec

    qualications listed in Section 4.

    2.3 English Prociency

    The requirement for admission to all NAFA diploma

    courses, except the Diploma in Dance and the Diploma in

    Theatre (Mandarin Drama) is

    Grade C6 or better in the Singapore-Cambrid ge GCE O

    Level English Language, or

    TOEFL 500 or better, or

    IELTS Band 5 or higher, or

    Pass in NAFA English Admission Test, or

    Qualications equivalent to any of the above.

    The requirement for admission to the Diploma in Dance or

    the Diploma in Theatre (Mandarin Drama) is

    Grade D7 or better in the Singapore-Cambridge

    GCE O Level English Language, or

    TOEFL 400 or better, or

    IELTS Band 4 or higher, or

    Pass in NAFA English Admissi on Test.

    2.4 Professional Qualication (applicable only for Diploma

    in Music Performance and Diploma in Music Teaching)

    In addition to above educational and English prociency

    qualications, applicants are required to have achieved

    ABRSM Grade V in theory or the equivalent.

    During the Admission Audition, applicants are expected

    to perform two contrasting works, scales and aural

    tests (standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade VIII) on

    their intended principal study.

    2.5 Age Requirement (applicable only for Diploma

    in Dance)

    Preferably 16 to 25 years old.

    2.6 Conditional Admission

    Applicants who pass the NAFA Admission Test/Audition

    but fail the NAFA English Admission Test marginally

    may be offered conditional admission. To qualify for

    conditional admission, applicants must complete the

    120-hour NAFA in-house English course successfully by

    the end of their rst year. Failing which, their study in

    NAFA will be terminated.

    3. Module Exemption

    Exemption of a NAFA diploma module may be granted

    to new students who have, prior to being admitted

    to NAFA, taken and passed identical or equivalent

    module(s) in another institution.

    The granting of exemption may be subject to passing

    a portfolio interview, audition or test.

    No more than 60 modular credits can be exempted

    for any student.

    Applicants must submit their applications for module

    exemption together with their applications for admission.

    4. Requirements for applicants with Institute of Technical

    Education (ITE) Nitec/Higher Nitec qualications

    4.1 For Diploma in 3D Design, ITE graduates in any

    discipline with GPA 2.5 and above may apply. ITE

    graduates from the following courses are eligible to
