Questions of the Week May 10, 2020 Gospel

Jesus commands us to love one

another!

Question for Children: How do you make

obvious that you love your family and

friends?

Question for Youth: The world is full of

examples of people who don’t love others.

What are the results of hate that you see

in the world? How would the world be dif-

ferent if we followed Jesus’ command-

ment?

Question for Adults: Jesus’ commandment

to love another is a challenge. What will

you do this week to deepen the love you

have for those around you in life?

Shepherd’s Call

Happy Mothers’ Day! What can I say? We would not be here without you…literally. Thank you. Mothers teach us accompaniment; they teach us how to feel in ourselves the joy and the upsets of others in our life. The Bible gives motherhood as an image of joy and comfort in Isaiah 62:1-5 and 66:10-16 and in psalms 128 and 131. It also shows the profound grief of a mother accompanying or wanting to accompany her children in Jere-miah 31:15-17 and Matthew 23:31-37. In the Catholic Church we have a beautiful tradition of placing ourselves before Mary, our mother, or of being nourished and instructed by Mother Church. The place of mother in our faith makes our faith and us, the faithful, a bit more human. Mothers, thank you for all you do. In the second reading this weekend, St. Peter reminds us that all of us are called to be living stones. It is a re-minder that the greatest and the least (in worldly terms) have much to contribute to God’s work in the world. I commend all of you for your prayers during this time of need. Continue to be strong stones, strong families in this regard. I commend the works of mercy that you choose to carry out. Together as living stones, we build up the church.

All of us are living stones by our baptism. We have particular missions or vocations according to the plan of God and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some are mothers and fathers. Some are called to share in ordained ministry as deacons as we hear in today’s first reading. I am happy to inform you that two Sundays ago, ten men were ordained deacons (one permanent deacon) at our cathedral in Cincinnati. How is God calling you? The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom (or what) do I fear.

In Christ, ¡Feliz día de las madres! ¿Qué puedo decir? No estaríamos aquí sin ellas. A nuestras madres, gracias.

PREP

God Bless you all and your families. Please know that you are in our prayers. To help you keep the faith alive while PREP is not in class we ask you to pick up your child’s packet in the back porch of the St. Julie Parish Office. We ask you to do two important things each week: 1.) Have your family pray the Sunday Mass online or on TV. Find information on Masses at our www.stjulie.net home page online. 2.) Cover a chapter in your child’s religion text or use the Pflaum Sunday Gospel Weekly.

Parents can find weekly Pflaum Gospel lessons at the link below and register. Use our PREP account number: 1122663. Here’s the direct link: https://www.pflaumweeklies.com/lesson-downloads/ The lessons are listed in the “What is Pflaum Doing in Response to Covid-19?” section. It’s on the homepage but you have to scroll down once. The lessons are in Spanish and in English.

Please contact Mary Pat Austing [email protected] or Pilar Hernandez [email protected] or leave a message at our voice mailboxes at 863-1040 with any questions. Confirmation Parent Meetings will be in the Fall.

Information about First Communion Practice will be determined at a later date. Please continue to review the Mass and the white First Communion book with your first communicant.

Vacation Bible School will be held at St. Peter in Chains mid July.

9 Months In the Womb With Christ May 10—Week 7 Those precious little fingers and toes are forming this week! Pigment has begun to develop in the eyes that will look on so many with profound love. Jesus of the womb, Hear our prayers!
