God’s Word for this Week On Being Human

Reading I: Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15 Reading II: 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12 Gospel: Luke 13:1-9

Scripture Focus

We spend so much time trying to be spiritual that we forget to be human. Many are searching for God “out there,” but God is found in the human experience and for many that is disappointing. Paul D’Arcy reminds us that, “God comes to us disguised as our life,” (adapted from Richard Rohr, Things Hidden, Scripture as Spirituality) and for many that may be disappointing because they would rather find God out there, in Church services, law, or doctrine. St Francis, Clare, and Bonaventure all remind us that relationship with God is a matter of the heart. The heart is the centre of the whole person. It is the seat of intellectual life and spiritual life, of reason and will, and the inner movement of experiencing life. As Jesus tells us, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34) In today’s readings, Moses, Paul, and Jesus tell us to turn our hearts to God. The heart is the centre of conversion, the place where God self-reveals. The human heart is made to be the home of the spirit. Perhaps if we experience God in our heart, in our ordinary lives, we would learn to be more human, less judgmental, less fearful, less anxious and more compassionate towards others and all creation.

Life Focus

Take some time today or during the week to meditate on the words of St. Bonaventure. “Your heart is the altar of God. It is here that the fire of intense love must burn always.” (On the Perfection of Life) Where is the centre of your heart?

Third Sunday of Lent

Lenten Longings - Sunday after Mass in the Upper Hall: Lent is a time

to renew our faith — something that requires prayer and reflection. In a small community we can see how Jesus himself, in the midst of activity, always took time for silence and prayer, and we realize how important it is for us to do the same. Add a special ingredient to your observance of the Year of Mercy by taking time this Lent to participate in Lenten Longings. Participating parishioners will meet, in the Upper Hall, after the 10:00 o'clock mass, to reflect on the Sunday Scripture readings and talk about how our faith applies to our everyday lives. It’s a good way to prepare for Easter. For more information you may contact Maurizio Visentin at 705-562-2349.

Share Lent - Building community in Indonesia: The 3rd week of our pilgrimage

finds us in Indonesia. The word kampung has come to mean ‘slum’ in the local language, but its original definition is ‘community.’ Your support for Share Lent means that Try Mopurto, who lives in a kampung, has been able to renovate his home for his family, despite suffering from mental illness. The community is coming

together to support him and his family. “My home is my heaven,” he says, “because here we feel the meaning of brotherhood in the social life of the kampung.”SHARE LENT COLLECTION ON GOOD FRIDAY – MARCH 25TH
