FJB’s Blog Dear Parishioners,

Happy Memorial Day weekend! This “unofficial start” to the summer is always a great weekend. It is a wonderful way to acknowledge the men and women in our military who are actively serving, those who have retired, and those who have died. These brave men and women give their lives to protect us and our freedoms. Thank you also to our safety forces! I am always in awe of the work they do so selflessly! I am very proud to be an American as we celebrate our great country and those who serve it.

This weekend we also celebrate Fr. Louis Carey, OSB (Order of St. Benedict). He was ordained on Saturday, May 26 at St. Andrew’s Abbey by Bishop Perez. He grew up in St. Robert Parish then joined St. William Parish just prior to the merger. His mother is a parishioner here. I am so excited for this first “son” of the parish to serve the church as a priest. In our possession is a chalice that was given as a gift to Fr. McCann, the founding pastor of St. Robert Church. We have had the chalice refinished and obtained an accompanying paten. This will be our gift to Fr. Louis. My request of him is to remember our parish in his prayers every time he celebrates Mass with this chalice. Fr. Louis and many guests will be here for his Mass of Thanksgiving at 11:00 am.

In the following two weeks we will continue the celebrations! Next weekend we celebrate Fr. Mike Feldtz who was or-dained by Bishop Perez on May 19 at St. John Cathedral. Fr. Mike was Deacon Mike in our parish this past year. Fr. Mike has a great ability to get to know people and really interact with them. He genuinely cares about serving the people of God. He is a good and holy man, and I am proud to call him a brother priest. He will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving here on June 3 at 11:00 am, followed by a reception. I encourage you to attend.

Then on June 10 at 11:00 am, a very sad day happens. It will be very bittersweet. We will celebrate Fr. Scott and send him off with our prayers and good wishes. He will complete his four-year term that day and then accept his new assignment from the Bishop to serve at St. Mary Parish in Hudson. He will celebrate and preach the 11:00 am Mass. We will have a picnic afterwards, and rumor has it he has brewed a special beer for the occasion. If you plan on coming to the picnic, please RSVP to the parish office. It is free and open to anyone. We just need to know how much food to prepare.

Here at SRW, we are blessed by a wonderful staff of lay people and priests. They all work very hard to help build the king-dom of God here on earth and prepare us for the kingdom to come! I am particularly impressed with how well you all sup-port our priests and seminarians. You have really helped them to be formed into some great men as they answer their vocational call to the ordained ministry. Thank you for that!

This past Wednesday we graduated 44 eighth graders from our school! I am very proud of our graduates and pray for them as they make their way to high school. Recently, unsolicited, I received a compliment from both a Lake Catholic High School faculty member and a VASJ High School faculty member about how much they love having our graduates in their school. They both said they are well-prepared academically but also very well formed in the ways of the Catholic faith, having a real spirit of service. I do hope they continue to be a part of our parish through LIFETEEN. School is also over for the summer and will resume in late August. Please pray for all our graduates (from our school, area high schools, and col-leges/universities), as well as for the safety of all children this summer break!

Happy Birthday 100th to parishioner Jim Schlecht! He is an awesome man! He is still sharp as can be. I remembering cel-ebrating his 95th and telling him I could not wait to celebrate his 100th, and now we are doing so! Happy Birthday and many blessings upon him and his family.

Make it a great week! See you in Church.

Peace,

Fr. John

Do you love a parade? Please join SRW families as we march in the Euclid Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28th in support of our military who sacrificed for our country. Proudly wear your SRW spirit wear. Please meet in front of Sims Park at 9:15 am. The pa-rade will kick-off at 10:00 am.

Community Meal

Servers, James and John, have joined in the celebration at our monthly community meals and they invite you to do the same. The hot, nutritious meal is free and is served on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:15pm in the Upper Hall of the School. Our next Meal is Tuesday, May 29. Fun and fellowship is included in the evening!

On Monday, May 28, begin the celebration of Memorial Day with Mass at 8:30 am! Keeping in mind that the Mass is the Memorial of Christ’s sacrifice for our human family, we gath-er to pray for our veterans and forefathers who sacrificed to safeguard human dignity for future generations. At this Mass we will make use of our Church’s prayers for refugees and exiles who now turn to Christians and people of good will to uphold their God-given dignity. A special collection will be taken up for Migration and Refugee Services to assist refugees and migrants in our diocese.

Will you help families separated by deportation?

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland’s Welcoming the Stranger Committee created the Parish Companion Program to assist families who will soon be separated by deportation. Many times, parents are forced to leave their children in the United States and require assistance navigating the legal process, es-tablishing guardianship, transferring assets, accessing commu-nity resources, and providing assistance to the children left behind. The Diocese is looking for willing individuals who will share

their talents to support our Catholic brothers and sisters whose families are impacted by deportation.

If you are interested in becoming a Parish Companion, please contact Camille Gill, Managing Attorney,

Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services at 216-939-3728 or [email protected]

to RSVP for the upcoming required training:
