Tuesday 4 February, 1430-1630, Room D203Digital Video At Length Presented by: InfoComm International Speaker: Joe Cornwall, CTS-D, ISF-C, Technology Evangelist, C2G Inc The importance of dependable digital video connectivity continues to grow exponentially as a plethora of consumer and commercial TMDS enabled devices change the nature of installed AV. With analog infrastructure all but gone, being able to deploy point-to-point connectivity solutions that support digital video content at critical middle distances is vital. Under 20 meters, AV connections are often best served in a native format. Beyond 100 meters, AVB or IP solutions may provide the better results, but in the critical range between 20 and 100 meters, copper structured wiring delivers the greatest efficiency and value. In this presentation participants will explore the characteristics and technology deployed in HD over UTP and HDBaseT connectivity solutions. This exploration will focus on operational theory, comparative performance metrics, and practical application of the technology to common AV installations.

At the same time security considerations concerning SaaS as well as players become more and more important. The extent of damage in case of security issues varies. Attacking content servers accessible from the internet will effect availability and integrity of the customer‘s data. But if player safety is compromised by a hacker attack or by virus activity, there is a serious issue concerning the customer‘s network (i.e. intranet). Such issues would result in a fatal lack of trust in the supplier and/or integrator. Digital Signage players are completely different from DVD players or the like, in that modern players are nothing else than computers with internet access. They have to be treated like other PCs located in a foreign intranet while at the same time being able go online. The configuration must meet all customer network security requirements. Some best practices and concepts will be presented.
