If you are submitting originals you may bring them in for an admissions counselor to review on site or drop them off for review. If absolutely necessary you can mail them and they will be returned by UPS (student is required to cover postage). Please note that any portfolio left after 21 days after review may be discarded.

“ Do I have enough money to attend Memphis College of Art?”
A quality education costs more. There's tuition and fees,
books and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous
personal expenses. And then, if you want your own place,
there's also room and board. But the good news is that
there are many ways to bridge this financial gap and make
your private art education at MCA a reality.
“ How much does it cost? How can I finance my education?”
Here are the factsCosts: Tuition and fees for one year
(2008-2009 school year) Undergraduate: $21,560 Beyond tuition and fees, we estimate a student's budget
for one year based on payment of room and board, utili-
ties and groceries, transportation, books/art supplies, etc.
Our budget estimations are based on the higher end stu-
dent residence housing cost and other miscellaneous costs.
You may spend less than our estimates.
Financial Assistance
1] Memphis College of Art awards institutional money in the form of merit-based and need-based scholarships, grants, and work study allocations.
2] Federal or State Government aid is awarded on a need and/or non-need basis.
3] Many organizations and companies provide external aid to students who demonstrate exceptional merit or substantial financial need. Some award money on the basis of family membership or employment. Check your local community and internet websites for scholarship opportunities.
There are three sources of
financial assistance available
to students.
Cost of attending MCA in 2008-2009: Other than the tuition cost, expenses will vary greatly depending on personal preference and restraint.
Tuition & fees $21,560
Art supplies & Books (est.) $1,600
Housing (most expensive est.) $5,760
Food (est.) $1,840
Personal expenses (est.) $2,840
$33,600
LIVING BUDGET
Institutional AidMCA awards scholarships to entering undergraduate students. The amount of
the award is determined by the admissions review ranking.
How to apply for institutional aid
A student need only submit all required application materials to be considered for
institutional scholarships, grants, and work study (see checklist on application form.)
Students will be notified of merit/portfolio awards along with acceptance replies.
Federal AidEligibility for Federal Aid is determined upon receipt of a completed Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Student and parent information is
required on this form if the student is dependent (usually younger than 24). Only
student information is needed if the student is considered independent.
The U.S. Government offers Federal Pell Grants of up to $4,731 (2008-2009
school year) per year. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
(SEOG) and Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), as well as Federal student
and Federal parent loans, are other forms of aid available to qualified students.
Federal Work Study can be an option as well. Also, many lenders offer alter-
native educational loans.
Tennessee offers a state grant (TSAA) and Lottery Scholarship (TELS) to qualifying
residents. Early applicants who qualify for a Federal Pell grant may also qualify for
a TSAA grant. The TSAA budget is usually exhausted early in the year. Tennessee
residents should submit a FAFSA before March 1 to be certain of qualifying.
TELS recipients must complete the FAFSA by September 1 and have a 21 ACT,
980 SAT or 3.0 GPA and graduate from a Tennessee High School. For more infor-
mation on Lottery Scholarships you can go to www.collegepaystn.com.
International students are not eligible for federal or state aid.
