In this course we’ll see how to:

search online resources – in order to download

those ones available at University of Padova’s

libraries.

The main tools for the bibliographic search are:

– Catalogs: A list of the documents (books, ebooks,

journals, ejournals, multimedia…) possessed by one

or more connected libraries, containing information

about the physical/digital location of the documents

and many other services.

– Databases:

1. Bibliographic databases: organized digital collections of references to academic literature, especially journal and newspaper articles

(e.g. Scopus, Population Index, …);

2. Full-text databases: collections where you can find the whole text of the document you are looking for

(e.g. Eurostat , EconLit, Socindex …).

For the statistic-mathematic point of view have a look at:

Current Index to statistics: a bibliographic index to

publications in statistics and related fields. References

are drawn from core journals that are fully indexed and

non-core journals from which articles are selected that

have statistical content.

MathSciNet: a comprehensive database covering the

world's mathematical literature since 1940. It provides

web access to the bibliographic data and reviews of

mathematical research literature.

INFORMS (Istitute for operations research and

management sciences): the website of the largest society

in the world for professionals in the field of operations

research (O.R.), management science, and analytics.

JSTOR - mathematics & statistics: a not-for-profit

organization with a dual mission: to create and maintain a

trusted archive of important scholarly journals, and to

provide access to these journals as widely as possible.

For pure statistics database:

Istat: the website of the Italian National Institute of

Statistics, which represents a strategic resource for

statistics available for public access.

Eurostat: it gathers and analyzes figures from the

different European statistics offices in order to provide

comparable and harmonised data. The data cover the

European Union, its member states, and its partners.

OECD iLibrary: the online library of the Organisation for

Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

featuring its books, papers and statistics. It also contains

documents published by the International Energy Agency

(IEA), the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), the OECD

Development Centre, PISA (Programme for International

Student Assessment), and the International Transport

Forum (ITF).

LEXIS NEXIS Academy: database containing thousands

of publications which provide extensive sources of

information in the areas of law, news, business, finance,

government, technology and other subjects.

AIDA: it contains comprehensive information on

companies in Italy. You can use it to research individual

companies, search for companies with specific profiles

and for analysis.

LEXIS NEXIS Academy (above mentioned)

Sole 24 Ore: it contains the full text archive of Il Sole 24

Ore from 1984 to yesterday's issue, together with

reviews and databases published by the Sole 24 Ore

Press.

Business Source Premiere: it indexes full text scholarly

journals and business periodicals covering accounting,

management, economics, finance, international business,

and more.

EconLit: The American Economic Association's electronic

database, this is the world's foremost source of references

to economic literature.

For the socio-political area:

SocINDEX: it is the world's most comprehensive and highest

quality sociology research database. SocINDEX offers

coverage from all subdisciplines of sociology. Also includes full

text for books, monographs and conference papers.

Rivisteweb Mulino: the electronic archive of journals of

publisher Il Mulino. In the database are available since 1997,

history, philosophy, linguistics and literary criticism, music,

psychology, social-political argument, economic and legal

journals.

ESSPER: Search Italian serials of economics, law, history and

social sciences.

Another comfortable tool to see all the resources

selected by the Library System for single

disciplinary areas is the Digital Library’s

Resources shelf.

With this service you can select the electronic

resources also by language and by type (fulltext

databases, eprints, multimedia, thesis, online

newspapers, search engines…)

Did you find interesting articles using Padua

Digital Library or AIRE? You don’t need to be

on-campus to download their full-text.

With the auth-proxy service

you have access to the electronic

resources even off-campus,

from Italy and abroad.

You are just requested for an institutional email

address, like @studenti.unipd.it or @unipd.it.

But please fulfil the use policy!

If these conditions are violated, publishers can

prevent access to the resources of the entire
