What Is A Digital Image?

A digital image is an array of numbers laid out in a grid. Each array element is known as a “pixel” or picture element. When multiple pixels are combined they create images.

How did we do it?

So, What did we Learn?

The chip inside the camera that captures the images is called the “CCD” or Charge Coupled Device.

There is a trade-off between digital picture quality and the size of the file. Larger file = Higher quality.

Two major factors of digital image quality are “bit depth” and “spatial resolution”.

Practical Applications.

Enables people to produce high quality photographs without the need to use wet chemicals and (awkward) darkrooms.

Eliminates the need to scan an image to digitally edit the photographs.
