• What is copyright?– Protection for “original works of authorship” in

just about any artistic, creative or intellectual form, both for published and unpublished works.

• Why should you care?– Don’t get sued– Don’t get accused of plagiarism– Don’t ruin your reputation

Finding Photos

• Using Flickr (from here) – go to Flickr's advanced search page and enter your

search criteria (such as Barack Obama). Scroll down to the bottom of the search page and check the box that says "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed photos.”

– Ask yourself:• Is it copyrighted? Does Flickr user have rights to image? Is it

genuine? Etc.– Be good: link and leave a comment (example)
