DESCRIPTION
Businesses who are interested in using information technology to maximise their profitability were invited to attend a Digital Economy Forum in Gympie or Kingaroy in May 2012. The forum, which was facilitated by Queensland Government, was free of charge and provided participants with the information and tools they need to drive their business forward in the digital age. The workshopwas highly interactive to stimulate the sharing of knowledge including best practices, previous experiences and any potential challenges in the digital economy space. The keynote address was delivered by the multi-award winning Yvette Adams, Director of The Creative Collective, a Queensland creative and marketing agency. A serial entrepreneur, Yvette has assisted thousands of businesses in New Zealand, the UK and Australia to get online and succeed online and is passionate about increasing the digital capabilities of Queensland businesses. Her presentation focussed on the technologies business owners must become familiar with as a matter of priority in order to ensure a sustainable and profitable future. • The number of companies in Australia entering administration in April was 812, which is up 10 per cent on the previous year and the highest April number on record (since 1999).
• Queensland's proportion of the national total insolvencies has increased from 14 per cent in 2006 to 20 per cent in 2011.
