About the Forum

The world is becoming digitally connected faster than ever. Digital technologies have been transforming societies in an unprecedented speed, having great impact particularly in the transformation of products, services, and industries.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) notes that digital technologies have also considerable potential for supporting and spearheading ADB’s new long-term corporate strategy to 2030—Strategy 2030.

Under Strategy 2030, ADB will expand its mission beyond eradicating poverty to help development member countries (DMCs) achieve greater prosperity, inclusiveness, and resilience. Its future engagement will use differentiated approaches to respond more appropriately to the changing needs of DMCs and the varied nature of their development changes.

In line with this, ADB will host the Digital Development Forum (DDF) 2018. Started in 2014 as the Digital Strategies for Development Summit, the event has become a venue for high-level discussions on ICT for Development in Asia and the Pacific. It tackles country and sectoral/thematic development strategies towards Digital Economy in Asia and the Pacific.

DDF 2018 is organized in partnership with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST). It will be held on 4–5 September 2018—with a Pre-Event on 3 September—at the ADB Headquarters in the Philippines.

DDF 2018 will cover the topics of seven operational priorities of Strategy 2030 within the context of digital technologies for development including: i) Digital Technologies for Human Development and Social Inclusion, ii) ICT for Gender Equality, iii) Smart and Livable Cities, iv) e-Agriculture and Rural Development, v) e-Governance, among others.

DDF 2018 will be a venue for development communities to discuss and discover options and ways in preparation for the coming 4th Industrial Revolution and Digital Economy. Participants will discuss new digital strategies and emerging ideas for development, share best practice, and network with other partners and stakeholders across the region.
