Advanced ArtWord Play – Digital Art

Overview: Students will pick a word to illustrate using Adobe Illustrator.

Objectives: After a discussion and evaluation of Adobe Illustrator students will be able to:

Express feelings, experiences, thoughts, and ideas through art. Show an understanding and awareness of Adobe Illustrator as a valuable art medium used by Graphic

Designers

Use the Typography tools in Adobe Illustrator to create a unique word illustration…. The illustration must represent the essence of the chosen word.

Recognize values and create values using line, pattern and simulated textures. Develop contrast through values.

Identify use of visual elements such as form, line, shape, and color in digital art works

Procedure: Students will choose a word to illustrate, students may look up words and their definitions in Word or on the

Internet

Use Illustrator to create your Word Illustration.

1. Open Illustrator2. Select “create new print document”3. On the new document pop-up screen, select “Inches” as your units, then input 8.5"x 11".4. Zoom out to 150% (bottom left hand corner) 5. Your canvas is 8.5 inches by 11 inches; please use the majority of this space to create your word

illustration. ………………If you need to work smaller first, do so then rescale to fit the 6in x 6in requirements

6. Experiment with the tools and techniques Ms. Mann has gone over, if you do not know how to do something ask.

Due: FIRST on all documents being turned in, go to Select All, then go to Type and select Create OutlinesFinal Word Illustration saved as JPEG (go to file save for web and web devices choose JPEG Final Word Illustration saved as .AI document, Pencil Practice file saved as .AI document.
