DIGIPAKS Ilan Rubens

WHAT IS A DIGIPAKGoogle definition: a patented style of CD, DVD or BD packaging, and is a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood.

They are usually used on special editions of CD albums or singles. When used for DVD’s it can be used as a premium package for them, for singular DVD’s or sets of them. The materials used are paperboard and plastic trays which are used to safely contain the disks. The term “Digipak” means soft DVD and CD packaging, which it is called because it is a lot less resistant to abrasion and so wearing and scratches will start to show very quickly unlike other forms of packaging.

BACKGROUND OF DIGIPAK

MWV (MeadWestVaco) were the first creators of the Digipak although another company, IMPAC Group Inchad originally owned the trademark. MWV was first formed in 2000 but they were still part of the AGI Media division. Through this, the designs and name of the Digipak were able to be licensed to manufactures across the globe. In 2010 MWV sold AGI media to Atlas Holdings in 2010.

The presentation of a Digipak is very important, whether it is for a DVD or a CD. In order for it to be successful it has to look professional and to a high standard, as well as the product having good content. When purchasing a DVD or CD this is what the customer will see, and if it does not look appealing then it will put the customer off buying the product as a whole. This is the Digipak to

Rhianna’s album “Loud”. It looks very professional as the designer has used the layout of the digipak to make it look more appealing. For example on the front has a close up of Rhianna, whereas when the Digipak is opened there is an image of her covering the three squares, including a background.
