Page 2: Digipaks

Miley Cyrus’ album digipak doesn’t open in the conventional way of a book, instead it opens up in to a giant poster. This is the front and back cover of the digipak when it is folded up. The background colour motive features warm colours. Miley Cyrus is sexualised in both images, revealing her bum in one image and holding her crotch in the other. The fact that the album title ‘Bangerz’ is lit up shows that she wants that to be the most noticable thing on the album cover. The cover alone looks more targeted to a male audience than female due to the revealing clothing.

This is one side of the overall poster. The poster looks like it overall documents the process to making the album due to the amount of images in comparison to text.

The overall background includes warm colours which contrasts with the harsh colours of some of the images which links to Miley’s overall new image.

All the text on the page is in pink which contrasts with the background colours making it difficult to read showing the images are to be the most important in the digipak.

The digipak includes no lyrics, instead it is credits for each individual song.

This is the other side of the overall poster. This side shows the more sexualised side of Miley Cyrus as it is mainly images of her torso area with bare skin. This side looks targeted to a male audience.

Ellie Goulding’s digipak opens in the conventional way of a book.

The image is a close up of Goulding’s face with the brightness on her face showing she looks peaceful which links to the album title ‘Halycon days’.

The title fonts are simple and spaced out which brings emphasis to them as they are easy to read.

The digipak has a warm colour motive of purple, blue and pink – again linking in to the meaning of the world halycon – peaceful.

Other pages in the digipak feature a page of lyrics and a page with a photo of Ellie Goulding. The images have the same motive as the image on the front of the digipak of being close up images of Ellie with warm tonal colours. Goulding’s face again looks content in all the images.

Page 10: Digipaks

Most of the papes in the digipak look like the ones above, a plain black background with white text of each of the song’s lyrics. This makes the digipak simple and easy to sing along to.

Page 11: Digipaks

An exception to the close up images in the digipak is this one which is in the centre of the digipak, a full body image of Ellie Goulding. The image features Goulding in provocative clothing which shows her as sexualised which would appeal to a male audience.

The back of the digipak and the print on the CD follows the same colour scheme of black background with grey/purple print. The purple adds warmth to the black which again relates to the album title and overall theme of the album – “halycon days”

This is the cover of Jessie J’s album.

The overall image is bright with the main colour being white. This all links in to the title – Alive.

Both fonts used are fancy writing and are black which contrasts with the white background bringing emphasis to them. The image is a close up, pure image of Jessie J which again links to the album alive.

Page 14: Digipaks

The back image of the digipak completely contrasts to the cover as the background is now black and the image isnt as bright overall. This could be because it is the end of the digipak relating to time and possibly referencing death or a feeling of not being so alive. This could mean that the album deals with tough issues. The image is again a close up, however this time we don’t see Jessie J’s face which makes the image look more emotional due to her body language. Again, relating to the possible reference of not feeling so alive.

Page 15: Digipaks

The inside pages of the digipak sticks to the black and white motive however some images feature colour which adds life to the monochrome theme – again linking to the album title. The digipak includes lyrics to each song in a simple black font against the white background making them easy to read for fans to sing along.Although Jessie J is dressed sort of provocatively in the image, it doesn’t look as though it is tailored to a male audience and stll has a feel of being for teenage girls.

Page 16: Digipaks

Although Jessie J is not shown to be wearing any clothing, the album doesn’t look as though it is tailored to men and not as though she is being sexualised as a artist due to the angelic element of the pictures.

Page 17: Digipaks

On this page of the digipak, Jessie J uses a image parallel to the text. Showing her painted in gold on the page of the lyrics to the song ‘gold’. This page also has a black background which contrasts with the rest of the inside pages of the digipak and the page directly next to it. This adds difference to the digipak making each page interesting as it isn’t just sticking to the monochrome theme which doesn’t seem so ‘alive’.

The final double page in Jessie J’s features all the credits for the album and thank-you messages. This page features a close up angelic image of Jessie J in the centre of the page which makes it feel like the text is personal from her. This page is addressed to anybody who has bought the album as well as people who have helped create it.
