Digipak Designs This is my Digipak front cover, it combines a photo that I took of a sun dial, this relates to my song because it talks of losing time. The text was one that I created on illustrator by getting a picture of the font that I liked and then using a live trace of the image to get the look that I wanted I composed it of two different colours because I thought and the feedback suggested that a difference in the colours would make it more appealing, and not all one solid colour. This is my Digipak front cover, it combines a photo that I took of a sun dial, this relates to my song because it talks of losing time. The text was one that I created on illustrator by getting a picture of the font that I liked and then using a live trace of the image to get the look that I wanted I composed it of two different colours because I thought and the feedback suggested that a difference in the colours would make it more appealing, and not all one solid colour. The other text that I used was just a simple text that came on Photoshop called ‘Hobo Std’ by angling the text on its edge I have saved room on the page and still preserved the image. Plus I have seen this effect used

on some other album front covers before and thought that I could use it. I had originally saved this image at a 13.56 by 11.80cm image so then I had to re-size the image to make sure that it fitted on the template in InDesign.

This is my second design I have kept the basics the same as the first but I have added in a few extra layers. I found a tutorial on the internet for Photoshop for this thermal infrared effect, I wanted to create something that was similar to what had been achieved before but with my own design. So I managed to create this effect.

The title is the same but I added in a white version of the already red title and by adding it over the top I realised that this looked like it had a 3d edge to it and so decide to keep it. The Other text I kept the same

colours but shrinked it in size to make it fit on the front better. And to make sure that my Digipak design had the same colour scheme running through it I changed the background to a block red colour.

I also deleted the Mini album because I have 11 songs and this is too many for this one album to have.

This is my back cover for my Digipak It includes all the songs from the bands I decided to arrange them in this fashion because I thought that it looked different and that is what I think this band represents a slightly different and edgy form of music. I have added in the song lengths and changed the sizes to make it even more interesting for my targeted audience of people between the ages of 14 though to 19. I have also included the bands record label in the bottom left corner and a barcode in the right.

The image behind the text is one that I created myself it is an outline of the band that I created in Adobe Illustrator I added a gradient effect and made sure it was grey to fit in with the rest of my Digipak

This is my new and improved album artwork back cover because to keep it in synch with the rest of the Digipak the background colour has changed but the text and words are the same. I have changed the layout slightly from the last because I was given feedback regarding the borders and the placement of objects too close to those borders, so I had to move the song ‘Goldrushed’ away from the border and also move ‘World on fire’ because it was hiding behind the other image too much so that you couldn’t read it.

I kept the gradient the same because I think that it contrasts the red well. I have also gotten rid of the text on the right side because when printed on InDesign the text was pixelated and unreadable so I have created the text on InDesign to solve that problem. Unfortunately this lead to me having to go through the original images and change or delete the text so that when placed in In Design I could then add the text on which took time to do.

This is my Inside right panel and for this I took 4 pictures and arranged them in a grid pattern I then added a ‘Cutout’ effect to them, this highlighted the dark and light parts of the images and created some interesting and unique images.

I took the images as if it was a profile of the person, originally it was going to be 4 different people but then I thought that it would be better if it was just two people because then it wouldn’t look too crowded, this I

believe is bad because the Digipak will have too much going on in it and it will attract the eye to lots of different places within the designs which could become confusing.

This is an insert for the panel that is situated behind the CD It was my own interpretation of the ‘Keep Calm’ posters I had to delete the text that was on it because it came out pixelated and so I had to add it in on InDesign.

This is the design for the extra panel It is the lyrics for the main song on this album it is called the ‘On Our Way’ album so I decided to add the lyrics in. The song was too long to fit on the panel so the last chorus I had to add on the side and I had to substitute ojne of the chrous’s to just the word Chrous. I also added too images thast relate back to the song lyrics ‘We’re falling to the ground’ the text was also pixelated when it came out the printer so I had to add it in on

InDesign.

This is the design for my spines, it looks like the text has been badly placed but i thought that it looked unique and so I kept it like this but my feedback suggested that it looked bad because it looked like it had been created badly and placed on the spines cutting off the edges. This text also came out pixelated so I had to create this text on InDesign as well.

This is my original Digipak designs it includes the grey colour scheme that I used to make sure that it fitted in with the image that I used for my front cover. The only thing that I prefer about this design is the portraits of the two people are more defined on the grey then on the red, although it is the same effect on the same image it came out with a different finished product. The new version is seen below.

This is my finished final design for my Digipak all the colours are the same most of the text had to be replaced and changed on InDesign, the spines have used a different font. The lyrics have changed size to try and accommodate them on one panel without having the spare box on the side. The barcode and Republic Record image have been moved away from the borders, the text above the barcode had to be changed to avoid the pixilation. I have also added in my new front cover image and the new and improved picture portraits. So I will then proceed and get feedback from my target audience to see if it can be improved and how?

Some feedback has been given and some people think that I need to include the sundial image in my work because it was a good picture and I have received balanced feedback regarding the colour scheme some people prefer the grey because although it isn’t a great vibrant cheerful colour some people think that it looks more serious and the contrast of black and grey worked better than the red.

Some people also said that they thought the red was better because it was brighter and it looked nicer to hold then the grey. Plus I have decided to use the red because it is a colour that they have used before in their work so I am keeping hat they have already done that is good and adding my own personal twist to it to make it fit in with the target audience that I am aiming for.
