Important Safeguards1

In addition to the careful attention devoted to quality standards in the manu-facturing process of your product, safety is a major factor in the design ofevery instrument. However, safety is your responsibility too. This sheet listsimportant information that will help to ensure your enjoyment and proper useof the product and accessory equipment. Please read them carefully beforeoperating and using your product.

1.1 General Precautions1. All warnings and instructions in this manual should be followed.2. Remove the plug from the outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid aerosol

detergents. Use a water-dampened cloth for cleaning.3. Do not use this product in humid or wet places.4. Keep enough space around the product for ventilation. Slots and openings

in the storage cabinet should not be blocked.5. It is highly recommended to connect the product to a surge protector to

protect from damage caused by electrical surges. It is also recommendedto connect the product to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), whichhas an internal battery that will keep the product running in the event of apower outage.

CAUTION

Maintain electrical safety. Power line operated equipment or accessories connected to thisproduct should bear the UL listing mark or CSA certification mark on the accessory itselfand should not be modified so as to defeat the safety features. This will help avoid any po-tential hazard from electrical shock or fire. If in doubt, contact qualified service personnel.

1.2 Installation1. Read and Follow Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions

should be read before the product is operated. Follow all operatinginstructions.

2. Retain Instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be re-tained for future reference.

3. Heed Warnings - Comply with all warnings on the product and in the op-erating instructions.

4. Polarization - Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized orgrounding-type plug.A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other.

A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong.

The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety.

If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician forreplacement of the obsolete outlet.

5. Power Sources - This product should be operated only from the type ofpower source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the typeof power supplied to your location, consult your video dealer or localpower company. For products intended to operate from battery power, orother sources, refer to the operating instructions.

6. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords as this canresult in the risk of fire or electric shock. Overloaded AC outlets, extensioncords, frayed power cords, damaged or cracked wire insulation, and bro-ken plugs are dangerous. They may result in a shock or fire hazard. Peri-odically examine the cord, and if its appearance indicates damage ordeteriorated insulation, have it replaced by your service technician.

7. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should be routed so thatthey are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon oragainst them. Pay particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience re-ceptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.

8. Surge Protectors - It is highly recommended that the product be con-nected to a surge protector. Doing so will protect the product from damagecaused by power surges. Surge protectors should bear the UL listing markor CSA certification mark.

9. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) - Because this product is de-signed for continuous, 24/7 operation, it is recommended that you connectthe product to an uninterruptible power supply. An uninterruptible powersupply has an internal battery that will keep the product running in theevent of a power outage. Uninterruptible power supplies should bear theUL listing mark or CSA certification mark.

10.Ventilation - Slots and openings in the case are provided for ventilation toensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating.These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings shouldnever be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other simi-lar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator orheat register. This product should not be placed in a built-in installationsuch as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided and theproduct manufacturer’s instructions have been followed.

11.Attachments - Do not use attachments unless recommended by theproduct manufacturer as they may cause a hazard.

12.Water and Moisture - Do not use this product near water — for example,near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement,near a swimming pool and the like.

13.Heat - The product should be situated away from heat sources such as ra-diators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) thatproduce heat.

14.Accessories - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tri-pod, or table. The product may fall, causing serious damage to the prod-uct. Use this product only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or tablerecommended by the manufacturer or sold with the product. Any mountingof the product should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use amounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.

15.Camera Extension Cables – Check the rating of your extension cable(s)to verify compliance with your local authority regulations prior toinstallation.

16.Mounting - The cameras provided with this system should be mountedonly as instructed in this guide or the instructions that came with your cam-eras, using the provided mounting brackets.

17.Camera Installation - Cameras are not intended for submersion in water.Not all cameras can be installed outdoors. Check your camera environ-mental rating to confirm if they can be installed outdoors. When installingcameras outdoors, installation in a sheltered area is required.

1.3 Service1. Servicing - Do not attempt to service this product yourself, as opening or

removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards.Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

2. Conditions Requiring Service - Unplug this product from the wall outletand refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the followingconditions:• When the power supply cord or plug is damaged.• If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the product.• If the product has been exposed to rain or water.• If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged• If the product does not operate normally by following the operating in-structions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operatinginstructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in dam-age and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to re-store the product to its normal operation.

• When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance. This indi-cates a need for service.

3. Replacement Parts -When replacement parts are required, have theservice technician verify that the replacements used have the same safetycharacteristics as the original parts. Use of replacements specified by theproduct manufacturer can prevent fire, electric shock, or other hazards.

4. Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product,ask the service technician to perform safety checks recommended by themanufacturer to determine that the product is in safe operating condition.

1.4 Use1. Cleaning - Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not

use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

2. Product and Cart Combination -When product is installed on a cart,product and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, ex-cessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart com-bination to overturn.

3. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into this prod-uct through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or“short-out” parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spillliquid of any kind on the product.

4. Lightning - For added protection of this product during a lightning storm,or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug itfrom the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This willprevent damage to the product due to lightning and power line surges.

4.1 Default User Name and PasswordThe keyboard has the following user account by default:

• admin: can access all functions. Default password is 000000.4.2 Keyboard Ports

1. USB: Service only; not supported.2. RS422: Not supported.3. RS485: Used for RS485 connections.4. Ethernet: Connect an Ethernet cable from the keyboard to your router to

1. To access these controls when you are connected to a DVR/NVR, press the numbercorresponding to the channel the PTZ camera is connected to and then press PTZ.

5.1 Start Up1. Connect the included power adapter to the keyboard and to a power outlet

or surge protector.2. When the keyboard starts up it will show the current date and time on the

display. Press ENTER to enter the sign in screen.

3. Move the joystick down to highlight PW. Enter the admin password (de-fault: 000000. Press ENTER to log into the keyboard.

5.2 Adding Zones (Devices)You can control multiple devices using the keyboard. The keyboard saveseach device as a zone. See the sections below for instructions on how to adda zone depending on the connection method.

5.2.1 Adding Devices over the Local Area Network (LAN)You can add devices that are connected to the same LAN as the keyboard.

To add devices over the LAN:

1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the keyboard and connect the other end to arouter on your network.

2. Connect the power adapter to the keyboard to power on the keyboard.The keyboard will automatically connect to your network.

3. Press ENTER to open the menu. Select the admin user and enter thepassword (default: 000000) under PW. Press ENTER to login.

4. SelectMenu Settings and press ENTER.

5. Select ZONE and press ENTER.6. Configure the following:

• ID: Enter an ID number to save this device under. Each device you con-nect to must have a unique ID number.

• Name: Enter a name for the device of your choice.• Link: Select NET to select a device over the network.• Type: Select the type of device you would like to control: DVR, NVR, orSD (PTZ camera standalone).

• IPAddr: Enter the IP address of the device you would like to add.• Client Port: Enter the Client Port of the device you would like to add.The default client port for FLIR products is 35000.

• Password: Enter the password for the device’s admin account.

NOTE

The keyboard can only log into devices using the admin account. It does not sup-port connections to client devices using secondary user accounts.

7. Press ENTER to save the zone in the keyboard.8. Press ESC to go back one level.9. Select Zone Control and press ENTER.

10. Enter the ID you set for the device in step 6 and press ENTER.

The keyboard will connect to the device. See 6 Controlling Devices Usingthe Keyboard, page 17 for instructions on how to control your device.

5.2.2 Adding PTZ Cameras using RS485You can control PTZ cameras using the RS485 connection.

To add a PTZ camera using RS485:

1. Connect the RS485 Rx cables from the PTZ camera to the keyboard.

NOTE

Connect Rx positive (+) from the camera to the A1 connector on the keyboard. Con-nect Rx negative (-) from the camera to the B1 connector on the keyboard.

2. Plug in the keyboard to power it on.3. Press ENTER to open the menu. Select the admin user and enter the

password (default: 000000) under PW. Press ENTER to login.4. SelectMenu Settings and press ENTER.

5. Select ZONE and press ENTER.

6. Configure the following:

• ID: Enter an ID number to save this device under. Each device you con-nect to must have a unique ID number.

• Type: Select SD (PTZ camera standalone).• 485Addr: Enter the RS485 address of the device you are adding.• Rule: Select the RS485 protocol.• BaudRate: Select the device baud rate.• DataBit: Select the device data bit setting.• Parity: Select the device parity setting.• StopBit: Select the device stop bit setting.

7. Press ENTER to save the device.8. Press ESC to go back one level.9. Select Zone Control and press ENTER.

10. Enter the ID you set for the device in step 6 and press ENTER.

The keyboard will connect to the device. See 6 Controlling Devices Usingthe Keyboard, page 17 for instructions on how to control your device.

5.2.3 Adding a DVR or NVR Using RS232You can control a DVR or NVR using an RS232 serial connection.

To find the RS232 address and connection information on FLIR DVRs/NVRs, see 5.2.4Finding RS232 Information on FLIR DVRs or NVRs, page 16.

To connect to a DVR/NVR using RS232:

1. Connect the RS232 cables from the keyboard to the DVR / NVR.2. Plug in the keyboard to power it on.3. Press ENTER to open the menu. Select the admin user and enter the

password (default: 000000) under PW. Press ENTER to login.4. SelectMenu Settings and press ENTER.5. Select ZONE and press ENTER.6. Configure the following:

5.2.4 Finding RS232 Information on FLIR DVRs or NVRsOn FLIR DVRs and NVRs, the RS232 address is determined by the DeviceNo in the DVR/NVR settings. On DNR400 Series for example, you can find

the Device No. by right-clicking and then clickingMain Menu>>General>General. See the example below.

To find the Baud Rate, DataBit, Parity, and StopBit for RS232 on FLIR DVRsand NVRs, go to the RS232 menu. On DNR400 Series for example, to get to

the RS232 menu clickMain Menu> >General>RS232. Functionshould be set to NetKeyboard. See below example for recommended settings.

6.1 Selecting DevicesDevices are saved in the PTZ keyboard as zones. Select the zone to login tothe desired device.

To select zones:

1. Login to the keyboard.2. Select Zone Control and press ENTER.

3. Enter the ID for the device and press ENTER.

The keyboard will connect to the device. See below for controls based onthe type of device you are connecting to: DVR/NVR or PTZ camera.

6.2 Controlling DVRs or NVRsOnce you have added your FLIR MPX DVR or NVR to the keyboard, you cancontrol connected PTZ cameras, control the live display or playback, and ac-cess the menus. The below controls are available when connected to theDVR or NVR.

NOTE

For DVRs and NVRs, you must log out from any local user accounts before you can usethe keyboard controls.

6.2.1 DVR/NVR ControlsWhen you are connected to a DVR or NVR, the screen looks like the onebelow.

DVR/NVR keyboard controls:

• Press the joystick UP or DOWN to change the split screen layout.• Press the joystick LEFTor RIGHT to select the camera / group of cameras.• Press the channel number and then CAM to select a camera.• Press the channel number and then PTZ to open PTZ controls for a cam-era. See 6.3 Controlling PTZ Cameras, page 18 for details on controllingPTZ cameras.

• Press ENTER to open the system info screen. Press ENTER twice to openthe DVR/NVR menus. In menus:• In menus, press the joystick LEFTand RIGHT to move the cursor. Pressthe joystick UP and DOWN to adjust settings.

• Press ENTER to confirm options and press ESC to exit menus withoutsaving.

• Press PLAY to open playback mode. Press 1~9 to control playback. PressESC to return to live view.

• Press ID to log out of the DVR or NVR.6.3 Controlling PTZ CamerasWhen a PTZ camera is selected, the keyboard screen looks like this:

6.3.1 Basic PTZ Controls• Move the joystick LEFT, RIGHT, UP, and DOWN to control the camera.• Twist the joystick or use the ZOOM +/- buttons to zoom the camera. TWISTRIGHT to zoom in. TWIST LEFT to zoom out.

• Use the IRIS +/- buttons to adjust the camera iris.• Use the FOCUS +/- buttons to adjust the camera focus.6.3.2 Controlling the Camera OSD Menu• Press OTHER to open the camera’s OSD menu.• Press the joystick UP and DOWN to select menu items.• Press the joystick LEFTand RIGHT to change menu parameters.• Press ENTER to open submenus.• Press ESC to exit the OSD menu.6.3.3 Controlling PresetsYou can set or go to camera presets using the keyboard.

To set camera presets:

1. Move the camera to the position you would like to save as a preset.2. Press PRESET to open the preset menu.

3. Under PreNo. enter the number you would like to save this position under.4. Press the joystick DOWN to select Set. Press ENTER to save the preset.To go to camera presets:

1. Press PRESET to open the preset menu.

preset.6.3.4 Controlling ToursThe tour function will set the camera to cycle through a series of presets.Once you have presets saved, you can use the keyboard to create tours.

To create a tour:

1. Press the TOUR button to open the tour menu.

2. Under TourNo. enter the number of the tour you would like to set up.3. Press the joystick DOWN to select Set and press ENTER.4. Under Preset No. enter the number of the preset you would like to add to

the tour.

5. Press the joystick DOWN to select PresetAdd and press ENTER to addthe selected preset to the tour.

6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 to add additional presets.

NOTE

If you add a preset by mistake, you can select PresetDel and press ENTER to deletethe selected preset from the tour.

7. Press ESC when finished adding presets.

To start/stop a tour:

1. Press the TOUR button to open the tour menu.

2. Under TourNo. enter the number of the tour you want to run.3. Press the joystick DOWN to select Start and press ENTER to start the

tour. The tour will continue running until it is manually stopped.4. To stop the tour, select Stop from the tour menu and press ENTER.6.3.5 Controlling ScansThe scan function sets the camera to go back and forth between a left and aright position.

To create a scan:

1. Use the joystick to move the camera into the desired left position.2. Press the SCAN button to open the scan menu.

3. Under ScanNo. enter the number of the scan you would like to set up.4. Press the joystick DOWN to select Set and then press ENTER.

5. Select Set Left and press ENTER to save the current position as the leftposition. This exits the scan menu and returns to PTZ controls.

6. Use the joystick to move the camera into the desired right position.7. Press the SCAN button to open the scan menu.8. Press the joystick DOWN to select Set and then press ENTER.9. Select Set Right and press ENTER to save the current position as the

right position.To run a scan:

1. Press the SCAN button to open the scan menu.

2. Under ScanNo. enter the number of the scan you would like to run.3. Press DOWN on the joystick to select Start and press ENTER to run the

scan.4. To stop the scan, select Stop and press ENTER.6.3.6 Running a PanThe pan function allows the camera to continually rotate 360°.

To start / stop a pan:

• Select Start and press ENTER to start panning.• Select Stop and press ENTER to stop panning.6.3.7 Controlling PatternsThe pattern function allows you to save a series of movements with the joy-stick to recall later.

To create a pattern:

1. Press PATTERN to open the pattern menu.

2. Under PatNo. enter the number of the pattern you want to save.3. Press DOWN on the joystick to select SETand then press ENTER.4. Select Start and press ENTER to begin recording the pattern. This will re-

turn you to the PTZ controls.5. Use the joystick to create the pattern.6. When you are finished, press the PATTERN button to return to the pattern

menu. Then select SETand press ENTER. Select Stop and press ENTERto save the pattern.

You can use the keyboard menu to configure the keyboard.

7.1 Navigating the Menu• Move the joystick UP and DOWN to select items.• Move the joystick LEFTand RIGHT to change parameters.• Press the keyboard buttons to enter characters. Press SHIFT to change in-put types. Press FOCUS— to delete characters.

• Press ENTER to confirm selections or enter sub-menus.• Press ESC to exit or go back.7.2 SystemThe System menus allow you to configure keyboard settings. System menusare underMenu Settings>System.

7.2.1 TimeThe Time menu lets you set the system time. Set the year, month, day, minute,and second. You can select 12 or 24 hour time underMode. Press ENTER tosave changes.

7.2.2 NetworkThe Network menu allows you to configure the IP address and network pa-rameters for the keyboard. The keyboard is set to DHCP by default, so you willonly need to change these settings if you need to set a static IP address.

To set a static IP address:

1. Move the joystick LEFT to set DHCP to Off. Press ENTER.

2. Configure the IPAddress (IPAddr), Subnet Mask, Gateway, and Port asneeded and press ENTER to save.

7.2.3 AddressThe Address menu allows you to configure the receiver address for the PTZkeyboard for RS232/RS485. Set the address between 0 and 255 (default is 0).When there is a cascade connection, the 0 has the highest priority and the255 has the lowest priority.

7.2.4 AuxThe Aux menu allows you to configure backlight and auto-logout.

• Backlight: Select ON to enable screen backlight or OFF to disable. PressENTER to save changes.

• AutoLogout: Select OFF to disable auto-logout, or select auto-logout in10 minutes (10M), 30 minutes (30M), or 60 minutes (60M). Press ENTERto save changes.

7.3 ZoneThe Zone menu allows you to add or configure devices connected to the key-board. See 5.2 Adding Zones (Devices), page 11 for details.

7.4 AccountThe Account menus allow you to add, delete, or modify user accounts andpasswords on the keyboard.

NOTE

You must be logged into the keyboard with the admin account to access this menu.

7.4.1 Modify PWModify PW allows you to change the password for a user account.

To change an account password:

1. Highlight User and press left/right on the joystick to select the useraccount.

2. Highlight PW and enter the new password for the user. It is recommendedto enter a six digit password.

3. Highlight OK and confirm the password. Press ENTER to save the newpassword.

7.4.2 Add UserYou can add additional user accounts to the keyboard.

To add additional user accounts:

1. Highlight User and enter user name.2. Highlight PW and enter account password. It is recommended to enter a

six digit password.3. Highlight OK and confirm the password.4. Press down to highlight Right and press ENTER to configure user ac-

count rights. Press LEFT/RIGHT to enable/disable rights. Rights are en-abled when the icon is filled (•) and disabled when the icon is empty (◦).Press ENTER to confirm the rights and save the user account.

5. Press ENTER to save the user account.7.4.3 Delete UserSelect a user account and press ENTER to delete the account.

NOTE

The admin account cannot be deleted.

7.4.4 Modify RightsModify Rights allows you to change rights assigned to user accounts you havecreated.

To modify rights:

1. Highlight User and select the user account you want to modify.2. Press down to highlight Right and press ENTER to configure user ac-

count rights. Press left/right to enable/disable rights. Rights are enabledwhen the icon is filled (•) and disabled when the icon is empty (◦). PressENTER to confirm the rights and save the user account.

3. Press ENTER to save changes.7.5 Config (Resetting to Factory Defaults)The Config menu allows you to clear all zones or reset the keyboard to factorydefault settings.

To clear zones:

1. Select Clear Zones and press ENTER.

2. Press ENTER again to confirm or ESC to cancel.To reset the keyboard to factory defaults:

The Model menu shows the model number of the keyboard.

When firmware upgrades are released, they will be available as free down-loads from www.flirsecurity.com/pro.

NOTE

A PC with Windows is required to install the firmware upgrade. Your keyboard must beconnected to the same network as the PC before performing the steps below.

To upgrade keyboard firmware:

1. Download the firmware file from www.flirsecurity.com/pro.2. Extract the firmware file (.bin) from the .zip file.3. Download the Firmware Upgrade Tool from www.flirsecurity.com/pro.4. Extract the contents into a folder.5. Open the folder and right-click ConfigTool.exe and select Run as

administrator.

NOTE

If a Windows Firewall warning appears, click Allow Access.

7. Configure the following:

• IPAddress: Enter the IP address of the keyboard.

NOTE

To find the IP address on the keyboard, go toMenu Settings>System>Networkthen select DHCP and press ENTER.

• User Name: Enter admin.• Password: Enter the password for the keyboard admin account (de-fault: 000000).

• Port: Enter the keyboard’s Client port (default 35000).8. Click Login. Select the System Upgrade tab.9. Click Open and select the firmware upgrade file (.bin). Click Upgrade to

start the firmware upgrade. Wait for the firmware upgrade to complete.

CAUTION

DO NOTunplug the power or network cable from the keyboard during the firmware up-grade process.
