In our last newsletter from 16 February 2018, we highlighted our

very own William Brookes students who played for the Shropshire

Handball U16 and U14 teams. Little did we know that there were more

of our students playing! The three additional William Brookes School

students from Year 9 that play in the U14 team are:

Geri Tamas Athens 1, Monty Dunn Sydney 8 and Charlie Lowndes

London 2 who can be seen in the team photo below. Well done boys!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH MEETINGS

A reminder of Duke of Edinburgh Expedition training in the next few weeks:

The next meeting for Group 1 is on Tuesday 6 March, 15.45 to 16.45The next meeting for Group 2 is on Saturday 17 March, 10.00 to 14.00

Participants who miss training meetings run the risk of not being allowed to take part in the expedition for safety reasons. Participants need to bring their information booklets to the meetings.

MATHS CLINIC

Clinics take place every Wednesday in Room 004, from 15.30 to

17.00. For anyone in school who would like some help with their

maths, or to do some revision for tests or exams.

MUNICH TRIP

All of our students and staff members arrived back safely from Munich,

all extremely tired with the arrival time of 1.45! Students you were

simply brilliant and we hope you tell your parents & friends as well as

fellow students all about your experiences!

The Telford apprenticeship show is coming up on Thursday 8 March with a range of local and national employers offering variety of apprenticeships from intermediate levels up to Degree level.

Design Engineering Apprenticeships in Telford.

An apprenticeship with the Construction and Design Centre of Excellence, will provide you with access to a career in digital design for engineering construction. Working in partnership with Dudley College of Technology, we provide fast-track training in 2D CAD and 3D modelling, within state of the art facilities, using the latest construction technologies.

Apprenticeships for sixth form Students JCB East Midlands and West Midlands – the nearest one to our area is Stoke but they offer relocation support to 18 year olds who may need to live away from home.The earliest closing date is 9 March. The Big Bang Education CICTHE BIG BANG FAIR 2018Wednesday 14 – Saturday 17 March

The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)for young people in the UK.

The Big Bang Fair is an award-winning combination of exciting theatre shows, interactive workshops and exhibits and careers information from STEM professionals.

We aim to show young people (primarily aged 7-19) the exciting and rewarding opportunities out there for them with the right experience and qualifications, by bringing classroom learning to life.

The Big Bang Fair also hosts national competitions, inviting young people from across the UK to compete, amongst other things, for the title of UK Young Scientist and UK Young Engineer of the Year

Applications for our 2018 UK Apprenticeship Programme are now open and will close on Friday 2 March for Craft Apprenticeships (Commercial Aircraft) and on Friday 9 March for all other programmes.

See the Go Think Big website for opportunities such as Gap year programmes with IBM, Internships, work experience, skill days, CV reviews with companies like Channel 4, BT, SKY, O2, Cap Gemini, Reed Smith and many more. Reed Smith are offering insights into Law days with a tour of their HQ, lunch and the opportunity to get top tips about how to get into the profession.

On the same site Channel 4 for example are currently searching for those over the age of 16 who want an insight into how Channel 4 commissions and produces their award winning TV shows. This day in Liverpool will cover the basics of filming, producing, directing and editing with a showcase of your hard work at the end of the day. A great opportunity to meet new people, industry experts, win prizes and kick start your career in the media industry.

Throughout March, County Training will be running advice evenings across Shropshire for young people leaving education this summer and also for anyone currently seeking an apprenticeship. The advice evenings will take place in Telford, Whitchurch, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry between 16.00 – 19.00and all those exploring their next steps, as well as parents and carers, are urged to come along.

Go to the Get my first job website to view all the apprenticeship vacancies with national companies. Although many are London based such as UBS, Unilever and Fujitsu, there are more local opportunities as well. Highways England for example is a digital apprenticeship in Birmingham so it is worth registering!
