Diary Entry #1 Hitler has just come to power in Germany and has invaded Poland. You’ve heard rumors about the ways Jews are being treated in Germany, about ghettos and the labor camps. Just yesterday the government announced that all “Foreign Jews” are being deported and are to report to their nearest train station by the end of the week for deportation.

Diary Entry #2

• You just found out that your best friend and family have been captured by the Gestapo. His/her family failed to report for deportation because they refused to leave their home/ business/ school and friends. Unfortunately, all Jews rounded up by the Gestapo are being sent to ‘forced labor camps’ where they’ll most likely be separated.

Diary Entry #3

• The day after the Gestapo took your best friend, you learned that the Gestapo have searched house and you’re not found. Thankfully, your family was out shopping at a store during the allowed hours.

Diary Entry #4• You're "lucky" enough to have a friend of the family take

you in and hide you. They provide shelter and food (bought on the black market). They put themselves at great risk. If caught, they would executed or sent to the camps.

and your family that they've sacrificed and risked so much to hide you.

Diary Entry #5

• You’ve been in hiding for several months now and tensions are running high. Everyone is short tempered and argumentative. You haven’t been outside or even truly alone since you’ve gone into hiding. How do you feel? How do you cope with the close quarters?

Diary Entry #6

• Bad news: Several people on the “outside” were discovered to be helping Jews by either providing false documents or helping Jews in hiding by accepting false ration books needed for food. The grocers helping your family have been arrested and the store owner executed to set an example for anyone else caught helping Jews.

Diary Entry #7

• Due to the fact that several people were arrested for aiding Jews; your food supply has been cut in half. Your meals consist of mostly potatoes and beans. No one ever gets quite full, you go to bed hungry and EVERYONE is tired of eating beans and potatoes. And yet, you're thankful for having something to eat, a roof over your head, people who are looking out for you, and, most importantly, your family being together.

from past birthdays. Not only in the general “cake and ice cream and presents” type

birthday, but also how different YOU are since your last birthday and the things that are

important to you now.

• Your (mom/dad/sibling) is sick. Your caretakers have brought medicine but it doesn’t seem to be helping and going to the doctor is out of the question. The illness isn’t too serious right now but what happens if it gets worse or someone else gets sick?

Diary Entry #10• You’ve now been in hiding for over a year.

You’re convinced that the war will be over soon and you will all be liberated. What are your plans? What’s the first thing you want to do when you get out? What’s the first thing you’d want to EAT?? How has this experienced changed your goals for the future?
