This was a huge undertaking for Tegan and her family as they had to travel to Lismore for the entire week. Upon talking to Tegan on her return, she stated that “some teams were really tough but we played well”. We are extremely proud of Tegan and her drive to excel in soccer and are sure that we will see good things for her in the future REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY Last Friday we had a group of children attend the Regional Cross Country. This is a huge event and the competition is extremely tough. With that said, Blacksmiths children are solid competitors. The following children made it through to States titles, which will be held later in the year: Thomas C.: 1st Mitchell C.: 2nd Emerson: 1st Kaitlin: 5th Harry: 2nd FOOD ALLERGY WEEK This was a huge success, with our children painting a nail to represent that 1/10 children currently have a diagnosed food allergy. Each day we were able to speak to the children about hygiene before and after eating, the various reactions that people can have and what to do in case of an emergency. RECONCILIATION WEEK Reconciliation Week was celebrated within the classrooms in various ways including Dreamtime stories, writing activities, art and class discussions. We are looking forward to continuing to celebrate inclusivity at the end of this term during NAIDOC week. The theme of NAIDOC week for 2019 is “Truth, treaty and voice”. We currently have some of our Yr 6 & 5 students working on the details of our NAIDOC celebration. In the interest of all children who attend Blacksmiths PS we encourage parents & carers not to send nuts, or products containing nuts, to school. Thank you.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

BLACKSMITHS SOCCER STAR

FOOD ALLERGY WEEK

This was a huge success, with our children painting a nail to represent that 1/10 children currently have a diagnosed food allergy. GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

I had the pleasure of spending the day with our Year 6 leaders, taking them to the Grip Leadership Conference. Our children where absolutely model citizens and had the opportunity to grow their leader skills and unique style.

HUNTER DANCE FESTIVAL

Congratulations to our senior girls who have been learning a dance for entry into the Hunter Dance Festival. We have just received confirmation that Blacksmiths PS was successful. More information about dates, costumes, etc will continue in the coming week.

SPELLING BEE

Spelling is a focus every week, and particularly for the following weeks. This week our classes are having their spelling finals and letters will be sent home today for those children who have made it into the school final this Friday 7 June, starting at 9.15am in the hall. The 1st and 2nd place winners will continue to represent both the Galgabba Spelling Bee Finals and the Premiers Spelling Bee. We wish everyone the best of luck!

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS

The canteen is in need of volunteers for the remainder of the year to continue operating. If you can spare a small amount of your time on a Monday, even if it is only once per term, please see one of the P&C team or leave your name at the office.

P&C MEETING

Tonight will be the first official P&C Meeting for the year now that we have our executive team consisting of:

• President- Colin Taylor

• Treasurer- Mel Linde

• Secretary- Megan Lysaght

Please come along and participate. It really is a lovely experience to be involved in decisions regarding your children’s school and what happens for the year. We welcome any new members and ideas.
