We had a brilliant athletics carnival last Wednesday. All students had an opportunity to participate and we now have a strong team who will represent the school at the zone carnival that begins this Friday. Mr Eccleston did a wonderful job in coordinating the event and he was also responsible for the weather! Thank you to all the teachers who worked throughout the day without a proper food break. Many students received place stickers for their heats in the track events. Ribbons will be issued to winners later this term.

Attached to this edition are some more photos from the book parade and the athletics carnival.

Head lice are an ongoing problem at all schools. The best advice is for parents to regularly check the hair of all family members including themselves as these parasites are easily able to transfer from head to head and can sometimes remain undetected. When the hair of one child needs to be treated, it is good practice to treat everyone in the family. T.Hagan Principal

K-6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2012 On Wednesday 8 August we held our annual K-6 Athlet-ics Carnival at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium. Mr Ec-cleston provided great weather (clever boy) and many students participated in several track and field events. The behaviour of the students was excellent and it was great to see so many good sports and lots of cheering from the sidelines for competitors. The assistance from parents was integral to the success of the carnival. Mrs Fediakov, Mrs Raiper and Mrs Wood-ward were a tower of strength helping with timekeeping and place stickers. The support from the James Meehan High School students again proved to be valuable and we hope to use their services in the future. Also a special thank you to all the teachers who worked hard to ensure each activity / event ran successfully and to our students for being great sports and endeavoring to do their best. The final place results are currently being collated. All the students have been notified if they have made the Zone Athletics team and the permission note and money is due this Thursday. Congratulations to the following zone representatives who will be competing at the upcoming Zone Athletics Carnival (held on 17 and 24 August 2012). Acceptance into the Zone Carnival is based on qualifying times / dis-tances and is broken into 100m individual age groups, Juniors (8, 9 and 10 year olds), 11 year olds and 12/13 year olds for all events. A separate list has been sent home, detailing all of the students who are eligible to at-tend the Zone Carnival and which event/s they are in-volved with. Congratulations to all the students who competed at the carnival. The sports place ribbons and age champion ribbons and trophies are being organised for an upcom-ing assembly later this term. INTERNATIONAL DAY IS COMING! Wednesday September 5

Every 2nd year, the students at Glenfield PS celebrate Inter-national Day. In Term 3, each class studies a country of the World and, at the conclusion of the unit, students participate in a number of activities on this day. We ask all students to wear clothes reflecting the na-tional dress of any country. We shall have an international smorgasbord lunch where students will pay $4.50 to have a sausage sizzle, popper and they will be given a plate to take to the Hall to sample the food. We need all students to bring in a plate of food, savoury or sweet, from any country, to share with one another. Students will be hearing stories from other countries, read by other teachers, and will begin their 2 day tour of all class-rooms to visit a number of countries, having their passport stamped along the way. Notes will be sent home soon. We are looking forward to a wonderful day. Please try to join us for the parade and family lunch. 3 weeks to go! Mrs Dunajcik (Relieving Assistant Principal)

‘WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN’ and ‘COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS’

This week sees the conclusion of these 2 promotions! It is now time to hand in any Woolworths stickers or Coles vouchers. We have to send in all that we have collected, by the end of the week. In next week’s Broadcaster we’ll let you know what the grand total was for both. A huge thank you is extended to the community for get-ting behind these promotions. Thank you to our parents and students for helping each week with collecting and counting. It was a fantastic team effort and the teachers are now working out their wish list! Mrs Dunajcik (Relieving Assistant Principal)
