Clean Up or Face the

Consequences

Be courteous to your neighbour. No one wants to live or work beside an unsightly property. How are we going to attract repeat tourism if our townships are marred by unsightly properties littered with rusty machinery and cars, rotting mattresses, old tyres and other dilapidated and unused material? It’s time to draw a line in the sand. From this week Council will be issuing clean up notices to residents whose properties have become eye-sores. Over the last 12 months our local laws officers have undertaken a visual assess-ment of properties, identifying 100 as requiring action under Council’s unsightly property assessment matrix. The majority of identified properties are in Loddon Shire township areas and impact on those living and working nearby. As the trash builds it swallows the ability of landowners to mow and maintain their yards, creating a haven for vermin and snakes.

It also presents a fire risk as surrounding grass grows longer and thicker.

Before summer approaches is the time to get those properties up to scratch.

Council is urging residents who have let their surrounds run wild to take action now.

Where possible Council will work with residents issued a clean-up notice. However, if owners refuse to cooperate, Council will either take steps to enforce the clean up or as a last resort undertake the work itself and require reimbursement of costs which could prove to be an expensive option. Our intention isn’t to excessively minimise the use or enjoyment of residential land but rather to ensure we keep the best interests of the broader community front and centre. It’s time to take pride in where we live and work together to make Loddon Shire an even better place to call home.

Pyramid Hill Netball Round 18 - August 13

Calivil v Pyramid

A GRADE

The A graders started strong making goal for goal at the beginning of the first quarter and trailing by only 6 at quarter time. The second quarter saw Pyramid match Calivil for goals but things started to fall away in the second half. It was a fast, tough game, well played game however we were unable to regain the lead which ended our season with an unfortunate loss. Calivil 58 d. Pyramid Hill 39 Best – Zoe Kennedy

B GRADE

Going into the game all of our girls knew we were in for a tough one. As expected, Calivil delivered a solid game of fine-tuned netball. The Pyramid girls did everything they could to keep up, however sadly despite our girls working their butts off Calivil ran away with the game quickly. Calivil 78 d. Pyramid Hill 27

Best – Olivia Webb

C GRADE

Another well fought game against a very strong Calivil side. The game started very competitively, even though Pyramid had many weary legs, from girls helping field other teams. As the game went on though Calivil were just too fast and accurate in the goal ring. A great effort to end the season, looking forward to seeing everyone back next year. Calivil 80 d. Pyramid Hill 28

Best – Hannah Mullins

C RESERVE

A slightly warm day to take the netball court; it was a very tight first quarter with the Pyramid girls only down by 1 at quarter time. With a few changes made the girls continued to fight hard but Calivil were able to capitalise with our turnovers and some intercepts allowing them to run away with the win. Overall, a great year girls! Calivil 41 d. Pyramid Hill 30

Best – Eve Cauchi

17 & UNDER

The under 17s started off with great determination and hope for a win with a close start and only down by one after the first quarter. Poor passes and lobs let us down as we started to lose confidence, overall our best play for the year otherwise. Calivil 37 d. Pyramid Hill 26 Best – Tess Hampson

15 & UNDER

The girls started their final game of the season knowing it would be a tough one. The first half saw some great defending from both teams but passes were letting down our girls. In the second half we had our two minis shooting some nice goals but in the end Calivil were just too strong. It was good to see the girls stay determined and keep their heads high the whole game. Calivil 73 d. Pyramid Hill 15

Best – Ally Burke

MINIS

The girls started off well and did a great job all day. It s pity it’s the end of the season, as the girls have improved so much and worked so well as a team. See you all again next year!

Pyramid Hill v Calivil United

The final game of the home and away series ended on a disappoint-ing note with our injury depleted teams playing hard but the opposition just being better than us on the day.

Under 18s The equation was simple for our boys; win and book ourselves a spot in the Qualifying Final, lose and we would have to fight it out in the Elimination Final. It was a scrappy affair early on with Calivil United having all the play and all the run. Luckily, our defenders did a fantastic job and restricted the Demons to just 5 points for the first quarter and we took a 3 point lead into the first change. From this point on however, our effort lacked intensity, we were second to the footy and rarely did a tackle stick, allowing the opposition to casually stroll out of contests and set up passages of play. Within 3 goals at three quarter time we had a glimmer of hope but some injuries to our midfielders led to some forced interchanges and we had the bare minimum on the field. Our intensity and pressure lifted for a slight moment in the final term but the game was shot, we went down by 30 points and we now face do or die matches from here on in. Final Score: Pyramid Hill 4.3.27 lost to Calivil Utd 8.9.57 Goal Kickers: L Douglas 1, J Fernandez 1, B Pickersgill 1, X Ryan 1

Reserves We came in today with a very depleted list with injuries and some boys called up to the ones. We had some experi-enced players don their much loved Pyramid jumper yet again with Bruce Moon, Wes Moon and Rowan Broad; and good to see Cody Wishart back having a run. The boys went out to make the most of the last game and to make it hard for their more fancied opponent. The change for Keith Conn down back was a master stroke as he played a blinder getting best on. Levi Southern and Johnny Cooper also played exceptional games with Robert ‘The General’ Pickles starting on fire and unfortunately slowing down due to injury. Well done to all boys this year and thank you to every official that assisted getting the team on the ground for the year. Special thanks to joint coaches Chris Leerson and Levi Southern who did a great job! Hopefully 2017 will be the year of the PHFNC Ressie’s and we will have just as much fun but even more success. Go Doggies, WOOF WOOF! Final Score: Pyramid Hill 0.0.0 lost to Calivil Utd 17.17.119

Seniors We came into this game in a very interesting situation. The mindset, of course was to win but any margin under 60 points and we would secure a finals spot due to our superior percentage. With both teams down on some top end talent the game was there for the taking and it was a tight battle early on. Both teams traded goals and when the half time siren sounded there was only 6 points separating the two sides. We hit the front early in the third term but the even nature of the game continued and the Demons hit back. Trailing by just 5 points coming into the last quarter – our dreadful luck with injuries continued. With no-one left on the bench and a head clash causing both Andrew Dobby and Dylan Tonkin off with the blood rule – we only had 17 troops on the ground. The Demons made the most of the opportunity and took control of the game – kicking five unanswered goals to finish with a 30 point margin. That was less than 60 however, so we have booked ourselves a spot in the Elimination Final against Marong. Final Score: Pyramid Hill 8.9.57 lost to Calivil Utd 13.9.87 Goal Kickers: B Micevski 3, M Callinan 1, A Dobby 1, N Fitzpatrick 1, J Lorraine 1, J Wishart 1 Best Players: Victoria Hotel Award: M Callinan, National Hotel Award A Dobby, Others: T Barri, M Dingwall, J Wishart, M Moon, N Dundon, M O’Neill, J Francis Thanks to the Calivil trainers for their assistance with our injuries sustained through the match. Come along and listen to the broadcast of the LVFNL Vote Count on 29th August at the Victoria Hotel, Pyramid Hill at 6:30 pm. Finger food to be provided $10 per person. Names to Garry Wishart. The PHFNC Vote Count and Presenta-tion Day will be held on Saturday, 17th September, starting at 4pm with the Auskick/Net Set Go followed by Junior Grades and then Senior Grades. All families to bring a salad please. This week we have our Under 18 and Senior sides playing in the ‘do or die’ Elimination Final at Inglewood on Sunday. So it would be great to see a big crowd of red, white and blue cheering the boys on! Good luck boys,

give it all that you have got!

Go Doggies!

Father’s Day at Piccoli’s

Star Spanner Sculpture

Gardens A cluttered farm workshop turned art studio is at the heart of one of the Loddon Valley’s most remarkable tourist attractions. John and Sonia Piccoli’s home gardens at Barraport, near Boort, provide the backdrop to John’s ever-growing display of metal sculptures, all crafted from spanners. The couple welcome visitors all year round, but a special invitation has been issued for Father’s Day, 4 September, when the property will host the launch of the 2016 “Naturally Loddon” Spring Festival. The festival comprises 10 family-friendly events spread across eight weeks. This year’s program also includes the ever-popular Kooyoora Wildflower Show, family weekends at Terrick Terrick National Park and Tarnagulla, a fishing competition, wetlands tour, vintage machinery rally, two local festivals and Boort’s annual metal sculpture competition. The Piccoli’s gardens will be open from 11am to 4pm, with a barbecue operating, afternoon tea and refresh-ments available all day, a jumping castle and face painting.

John contracted polio when he was eight and spent the next three years in hospital. When his father died, John, at 18, took up the reins and ran the family farm from his wheelchair with the help of his mother. He began making his spanner sculptures in 2000, when the farm was leased out. Visitors to the property enter via one of two avenues lined with 85 pieces of vintage farm machinery to stroll through two acres of manicured gardens. “During this latest financial year, we increased our visitor numbers to 7250,” John said. “We have about 40 sculptures on display, ranging from fruit bowls and table centrepieces to the biggest – a full-size wagon with Clydesdale. “I reckon I’ve used close to 100,000 spanners by now, with another 20,000 waiting.” Entry costs $5 for adults, with under 16s free. All proceeds will be donated to the pool of prize money for this year’s Boort Show metal sculpture competition.
