By defi nition, a portfolio is an unfi nished, constantly changing piece of work. The present one is a sum-mary of the skills and knowledge I have gained through my education and professional experience. Through this I mean to present my interests and personal inclinations, by showing the content and thus my goals and motivations.

In this portfolio, the accent was placed both on presentation and thought analysis and process.. I have shown my personal evo-lution, methodology, and product in relation to my fi eld of training : history of art through the study of heritage and culture.

Nori Koambe - artists who make pieces, artists who do books

After 5 years of studying history of art, I have forged my own perception of culture and heritage. To me they are made up of diff erent fi elds and the connections between them, be they economic, scientifi c, political, or social studies. The links between these diff erent subjects appear essential in order to understand the scope of my professional fi eld. I therefore decided to present this portfolio in accordance with the multidisciplinary aspect of the concept of cultural heritage. The dif-ferent fi elds that I encountered throughout my studies and professional experiences are presented here by theme.

The mediation is to create a link with visitors, to establish a dialogue between culture and visitor, so that one may be better understood by the other. The aim is to allow the broadest acces possible toculture and heritage..

This is a study of commu-nication and the spirit of languages. To receive and interpret the collection as well as the visiting public in order to adress them in an

informative, educated, intel-ligible and instructive way.The appreciative aspect must not be forgotten, but rather remain a priority for the visitor’s pleasure and leisure.

Finally, information becomes available to all types of visitors through mediation.

The documentary profession creates a link be-tween information and its user. This procedure is based on four main steps : Col-lecting-Research-Analysis-Management. Defi ning the subject of study, choosing the most adequate method, tools and documentary ma-terial , and returning the work in an appropriate form. The task at hand was the inventory of cultural and heritage goods linked to

chemistry on la Montagne Sainte Geneviève (75). This inventory provided the nec-essary information in creat-ing a documentary data-base on scientifi c heritage,a projet by Parcours des Sciences and CNAM.

Scenography and staging artwork is an important part of collecting and showing collections. It is the pro-cess and the protocole of displaying an object once it has been moved from its original place. Most impor-tant is understanding the risks that may weigh on a collection, the probabilities of which are accepted in the act of displaying the object.

This is carried out in sev-eral steps. The arrival of the works, with the establish-ment of a protocol; verify-ing and documenting the received works; preparing the exhibition. I carried out a great part of these activites autonomously, al-lowing me to appreciate the importance of each of these steps and to respect the protocol according to which they are carried out.

This work experience was essentially about about re-ceiving artwork. This stage is an important one, since it is a techniaue that it almost lost today, put to practice only by a handful of artists in the world. They trust Ma-dame Calvarin with the task of displaying their work.

Realities Professional constraints

Being part of a team on a construction site , participat-ing in manual tasks which answer to art and history, allowed me to develop a diff erent point of view on the reality of heritage sites. A reality applied by pro-fessions in curative con-servation and restoration.Learning to see, to analyse, to decide, and to act. The latter is precisely where the main diffi culty lies.

Application of knowledge

A reality in creation for tradi-tional and historic practices. The conservation of crafts-manship through the learn-ing of these techniaues and their implementation, be it when constructing a stone wall or a wrought-iron lan-tern... These are trades based on tradition, which means recognised professionals miust be on site, allowing an exchange in know-how.

These diff erent experiences led me to defi ne my profes-sional ambitions. They al-lowed me to become more specifi c in my choices and to understand my aptitudes in diff erent fi elds. It was also a chance for me to actively participate in cultural proj-ects for the protection of sites. I became more aware of the concrete application through these experiences.

Archeology is part of a scientifi c reasoning, go-ing from facts to ideas, observations to sug-gestions which could justify them, clues to the presumptioins which explain them. It is a diff erent way of thinking culture, history and heritage. The projects are about informing on and saving sites that are threatened, forgotten or sought after. On this construction site, the aim was to close digs that had been carried out in 1989. This means canvassing the area to evaluate and identify forgot-ten spaces. In doing so we discovered new material (steel works irrigation system) which provided new information that had to be dissected and analysed before it could be included in the program. Canvass-ing but also gleaning information and analysing it were the main points of interest in this project.

This « Professional » masters in culture and heritage is the result of an assessment and study of history of art and all that the student must know to be able to enter this new universe: a solid bast in preventie conervation, mastering documentation tools and techniques, understandingthe reality of how a museum or institutions function daily, evalutating the risks inherent to a cultural project, to carry out real projects in relation to the movement of works, developing specifi c know-how for conserving and enhancing a work, both in an institution and outside of it. The aim of this masters is thus to give students the means and knowmledge linked to docu-mentation and effi cient management of collections, to put them in contact with professionals on the fi eld, to off er work experience that is adapted to the changing techniques of these trades, and to help them to obtain, if that is their objective, elements that will prepare them to competitions organised by the Minister of Culture.

The aim of this document is to help elaborate and write up the needs in the dusting of the roman bath walls in Cluny Museum’s room 10, called “roman room”. It answers a main problem : iden-tifying and understanding the causes and ef-fects of dust in a museum of antiquities, in order to better protect the works during the dusting. To do so one must know how a museum functions, be aware of every detail in the room and the collections presented there.

The subject of this report is a marble sculpture by George Minne, bought by the musée d’Orsay in March 2010. This type of report is essential to museum institutions in order to have complete information on their collections. This docu-mentation consists in researching everything linked to the work’s history. This information can be found in archives, libraries, information centres, the internet, catalogues, magazines...

Additional information for a Monuments His-toriques commission document the DRAC put us in charge of documenting the building of the Ancien Comptoir National d’Escompte de Paris located at14 rue Bergère, Paris IX°. It was essential to take into account all of the reports on the building, construction informa-tion, renovation, sales, history, original layout... It was important to analyse the use of each bit of information to apply the MH standard and to suggest a new protocol if necessary.

The seminar at the Archives départementales des Yvelines was sanctioned by the existence of a docu-ment that came from the archives. This analysis is thought out as an aid in documentary research, by highlighting important parts of a precise con-tent. It is the organisational plan of an administra-tive report of the commune dealing with the ex-pansion of the animal market in the city of Poissy.

The person in charge of the musée d’Orsay reserves asked that in the reorganisation of these reserves, the current situation and future needs be present-ed in order to decide which works and/or studies would be necessary to improve the management and conservation of these works. This project is centred on the Water Flooding Prevention Planin a museum. There are many dif-ferent facets to this project.

The project is based on an open and living museum. It had to represent the Transylvanian traditional wood-en house and showing traditional works: blacksmith, horse carry, sheepers.... Transilvanian architec-ture is caracteristic because all in wood and pieces are interlock.

There, I was a part of manager team and Rempart ambassador. My job is to help Romanian peo-ple to manage volunteers work. Also fi x the project in long terms. It was a collaboration between my knowledge in working place and romanian architects.

This study is about showing how heritage represents a veritable dynamic vector of growth and lo-cal expansion, thus creating a de-bate on the national implication in these initiatives

Find a new way to illight the Cam-eroonian culture. Through that, a new way to display African arti-facts; a new conception of African art and museums.

The main thing to keep in mind is the local implications in any project for their own heritage.

Everything produced in Grassfi elds has a social function in the society. The image of social relations are transmit-ted in these cultural productions, as well as the basis of a social and politi-cal structure.

All that is linked to the organisation of social life in the chiefdom is mate-rialised through heritage and cultural production. The objects are alive only in their activity; when they are no longer useful to the community, they are destroyed or left to be eroded by time.

I am equally interested in the evolu-tion of political and cultural initiatives in Cameroon.

This country has elaborated a cul-tural policy since its independance in 1960. It is important to observe its construction, a particular model, a model in Cameroon.
