Vision and GrowthPreparing for a Great 2018

As we head into the downhill side of 2017, freight volumes continue to be good. We have yet to see a situation where capacity is overwhelmingly tight, but we are seeing areas of the U.S. experience this from time to time. We have talked about the Electronic Log Mandate before, but as we moved closer to December, we expect this to tighten capacity more and more. We are hopeful

that the Federal Government will also pass policies that encourage a more robust economic environment. If all of these things can come together at once it should make for a great finish to 2017 and a great 2018 overall.

As of this writing, many in the Houston area are suffering tremendous hardship. I know many at DHT have family in this area and we want all of you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with those people and everyone affected by this epic event.

Operationally, we continue to see issues where loads are not weighed after pickup. As we have stated many times, you must weigh every load. You cannot trust the bill of lading to provide a proper weight and at times for shipments from Mexico these weights are listed in Kilograms. Everyone needs to weigh every load without fail.

Finally, we continue to receive new trucks in Mountain City to replace our 2014 models. Once this cycle is completed we will have updated the Fleet with more trucks for teams and solos with the oldest truck being a 2015 model. We are also completing this year’s cycle of trade trailers. It has taken several years to catch up after the Great Recession but we are very close to having the Fleet where we want it concerning age. Our goal is to provide our driving force the best equipment in the industry.

I hope everyone has enjoyed a nice summer and had some time for rest and relaxation. We are looking forward to the last months of 2017 and are preparing for a great 2018. Stay safe out there and as always, we appreciate everything you do to make DHT the best in the industry.

Blake Grindstaff, VP of Operations

DHT family,

I trust that everyone has enjoyed their summer months and is now looking forward to crisp, fall season.

I remember this time last year when I mentioned in my article, “no matter who wins the White House

in 2017, Danny Herman Trucking is moving forward with our 10-year vision and growth.” We are doing just that and we continue to grow our markets and new business.

We work for one of the greatest trucking companies in the industry with outstanding employees!

As the 2017 year draws closer to the end the new ELD regulations will go into effect which should level the trucking playing field and tighten the capacity in 2018.

We are hearing staggering numbers as high as 70 % of companies that are still not compliant. It is good to know that our team got ahead of the curve over 3 years ago.

As you all know school is back in session… please be extra cautious of your surroundings and stay safe out on the road. May Christ continue to bless you and your families, and may He also keep us safe with our travels.

God Bless,Rick Watkins, VP of Sales

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | July / August 2017

I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well. This past month has been a busy month and as of this writing on August 31, it looks like it will continue to do so. We are overbooked in all of the areas. This is something we haven’t seen in a while, and I hope to see this continue for a good, long while.

I believe that one of the contributing factors in seeing a strong freight market is since many customers are beginning to require their carriers

to be ELD Compliant and this is tightening capacity in the market. In addition, the economy appears to continue its improvement and we are getting closer to the holiday season. For the past, several years we haven’t seen a traditional or heavy 3rd and 4th Quarter. I am hopeful that this is the year that it turns around and we get back to them.

As most of you know Driver Appreciation Week is just around the corner on September 10-16. We will be having food, drinks, and refreshments at the terminals. Please try to stop in at one of the terminals and enjoy some refreshments. In addition to this each of you will be receiving a care package in the mail at home. It is a token of our appreciation for all that you do. On behalf of myself and the Leadership Team here at Danny Herman Trucking, Inc., I want to thank all of you for the job that you do, not only for DHT, but also all that you do to keep America moving. I also want to thank your family. Without a good support system at home it makes the job that you do and life out on the road tougher.

May God bless each of you and your family! May He keep you safe in every mile that you travel.

Keep on Trucking Safely!!!

Joe

Thank you, Jimmy Honeycutt, for representing DHT so well as part of the TTA Road Team!

Good Afternoon, I just wanted to take some time to brag on the road team guys that came to our clubs. Our kids absolutely loved the program. Your guys were great with our kids. We hit them with a lot of kids at one time & it was very hot out as well. This truly is an amazing group of fellows that you have coming out into the communities. I cannot thank them enough for spending their time with us. Of course, each one said that he was your "favorite road team captain"... also said that you said that specifically to each one of them...Scooter, Scott, Jeff, Jimmy, and Josh all did a wonderful job in our clubs and we truly do appreciate them and the time they spent with us. We would love to have them come back at some point in time in the future. Thank you so much and please let each one of them know how much we appreciate his time here. Special people that volunteer time for others seem to be few and far between these days so these guys are a blessing. Once again, thank you so much.

Our Drivers are AppreciatedHello, all DHT drivers, I hope this newsletter finds you and your families well.

I would like to take this opportunity to talk a little about the upcoming Driver Appreciation Week that starts Sept. 10th and

goes through the 16th for Americas 3.5 million drivers on the road. While this event is only scheduled for one week out of the year, I want all of you to realize that we appreciate our DHT drivers every day all year long.

There are many of us in the office that have driven OTR in the past and we know what it is like to be out there and away from our families for extended periods of time. Driving OTR is a lifestyle not a job; it takes a special person to do this and a good support network at home. At DHT we don’t just appreciate you the driver, but we appreciate your families as well for sharing you with

us. DHT is a Christian and Family company and to us, nothing is more important. Even Joe will tell you that we are in the people business first and trucking second, because without the people we have nothing. I feel we have one of the best Fleets in the country and we strive to do the best job possible.

With all of that said, we appreciate all that you do for DHT. Thank you very much.

CSA UPDATEOur CSA scores have started to drop and are looking a lot better. I want to thank all of you for doing your best to help bring this down; however, we still have some work to do. Our Unsafe Driving score is still at 44% with a goal of being way under 40%. Once we reach that goal we can set a new one that is even lower. I know we can do this with all your continued support. Keep up the good work and always Drive Safely!

Thank You,Steve E Frantz, VP of Safety

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well.

Now that we are on the down side of summer, it’s time to look down the road at what be here very soon: cold weather! I have already had questions about bunk heaters and fuel treatment; I will advise the shops to test out all the heating

components during routine services. I would also ask the drivers to test their heaters, and if there are issues, right them up, along with any other maintenance

related issues. Please remember our service intervals 25k for A service and 50k for B service, and always do your inspections!

On another note, please keep all the folks that have been impacted by the storms and the storms to come in your prayers. Stay safe out there.

“Now therefore, stand and see this great thing which the LORD will do before your eyes:” 1 Samuel 12:16

The greatest enemy of any organization, home, or civilization is division. Division is a principle that has been used in wars throughout the centuries as military commanders know that if you can divide an army from it’s leadership or supply chain ultimately, it can be conquered. Perhaps you have heard it said this way, “Divide and Conquer!” Most every great civilization, organization, or home fails from within its own borders. If we were to do a study of the Great Roman Empire, we would notice that division within the government caused it to ultimately fall. When a company fails to cultivate a culture of unity within the organization, it will ultimately fail. The same could be said of the family unity. When a husband and wife are not “one,” then the marriage will ultimately fail or at the very least suffer greatly.

I don’t know about you, but from where I sit in Richmond, VA, there is a division in our land where people are angry at each other for nearly anything you can think of. As a driver, I am sure you see this all the time just in the way people aggressively drive cutting off one another, honking horns, and even fighting outside the vehicles. This division is eroding trust amongst the people, government, law enforcement, etc.

Now, I still believe in “United We Stand.” We see this at work right now in TX as people are helping people no matter their socioeconomic status, race, opinion, etc. People are working together and as a result the community of Houston and the surrounding areas, while devastated now, will be stronger than ever at some point. Why is that? There is power in unity! When a nation decides to forgive and move forward together, that nation cannot be stopped. When everyone in a company works together for a common purpose united, it is strong. When a family bonds together and loves one another, there is nothing that can destroy it. It is time now for us all to come together and not allow the opinions or differences of others to destroy the core value of unity.

The Bible has a lot to say about unity; however, I would like to focus on one passage that I think we can apply to our country, our company, our communities and our families. It is found in Colossians 3:13-14, “There it reads, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Immediately we read how we should “bear” one another. I believe the Lord knew that we weren’t always going to see “eye to eye” with one another on every issue. Disagreements are normal within relationships, but it shouldn’t become a springboard into the modern day “Hatfield’s and McCoys.” We can be agreeable even when we disagree on issues. The important thing is to respect the individual even if you do not respect the message of the individual.

Next the passage talks about “forgiveness.” This is a big word because this is where bitterness can take root in our lives when we do

not forgive people for making mistakes. This bitterness only hurts the person that has it firmly rooted in their heart. It is like drinking poison wishing the other person would die. It is a fruitless trap that many folks are caught in. Out of this bitterness brings anger which hardens the heart of a person. The simple truth is that we have all done things that we need forgiveness for. We should be quick to remember that Jesus was willing to die for us even while we didn’t deserve it. Even from the cross, Jesus is quoted as saying, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.”

The final thing we should do is “love.” Love is a tricky word because in our society today love is very conditional. Many will say, “If you love me and treat me with respect, then I will do the same.” However, the Bible tells us to love even those who seem to be unlovable, even to the point of saying we should love our enemy. I know what you might be thinking because when I first read that verse, I said, “Well, it sounds good!” However, I have learned through the years that I cannot love like that in my own power. It takes the Holy Spirit living within me to do so. Each one of us can have Him in our life if we will just ask the Lord to take ove over and transform our hearts. If you want to know more, then I encourage you to speak to one of our chaplains.

So, if we want to truly be united, then we must bear one another, forgive one another, and love one another. If we do, we will be stronger than ever in our communities, our company, and within our families.

Passing Along Testimonies

08/03/2017 Chass KelleyI just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for the Cards, Calls and Prayers most of all for my family and I during the loss of my perfect little nephew “Peanut”. We all know he is with our Savior without a care. Please keep my sister and her husband in your prayers for the tough weeks ahead. I did want to inform everyone we never know when God is using us to do his work! We just have to pray we are in his will and we do not turn him down. When the decision was made to put scripture on the back of our trailers I would have never realized how much it would help me in my future. While driving in the procession trying to answer my son’s question of “daddy what have we done to cause this punishment” which I did not have an answer for until I noticed one of our very own DHT truck and trailer ahead of us sitting on the side of the road allowing us to pass. And of course what did I see in large bold letters (TRUST). I then looked up and said I hear you loud and clear. Then was able to explain to my son God’s plan is perfect. We do not see the whole picture. We have to learn from our trials allow ourselves to grow from them. God wants us to grow toward him. I am truly Blessed!!Thank you for everything!!

08/22/2017 Call received from Connie Gillam of East TXConnie called in today to tell us what a blessing our Facebook Posts and our scriptures on our trucks have been to her personally. She sees our trucks on I20 and just gets so excited to see them. She has seen FAITH and LOVE the most, and HOPE a few times. Her father was a truck driver and so she has a heart for each of our drivers. She prays for them and even asked her church to put our company on their prayer list!!! She was just so amazed that we are unashamed of God’s Word. She said everyone that see’s our scripture may not comprehend what they are seeing at that moment, but it goes down into their heart and resides there. Connie said she will be on the lookout for TRUST and she wishes everyone safety out on the roads.

07/07/2017 Ashley GomezTo whom it may concern, I just wanted to say thank you for your ministry. I honestly did not know who you guys were or what you do until today, but I have seen your semi-trucks with scriptures on the back of them and every time I see them it brings a peace in my heart. The first time I saw them I was on a road trip to Los Angeles, CA, driving by myself. It was the first time I’d ever driven that far on my own, so I was very nervous, but I saw one of your trucks and it had John 3:16 LOVE on the back of it and it made me smile. Then a week later when I was driving back home I saw another truck with the same scripture. Now today I am on my way back to LA, but this time I’m taking the Greyhound bus. Again, my first time and I’m alone so I’m very nervous, and so are my parents. I saw yet another one of your trucks but this time it said Isaiah 40:31 TRUST on the back and, my word, a wave of peace washed over me. I sent it to my mom and we both agreed that God is good, all the time! This probably isn’t a significant story, but I just wanted you guys to know that you are successful in impacting the lives of the people around you, even if they’re just on the same highway as you. Thank you again for what you are doing.06/30/2017 Jackie KsgnI saw your truck on California St in Redlands, CA on my way to work this morning... with John 3:16 LOVE and had to look you up. Love it! Thank you for this reminder in Luke 14:34. <306/27/2017 Ashley Brooke KingSaw this guy in Danville, Kentucky this morning! Loved seeing the verse!!

Driver Manager: Jason BrownDerwin: How long have you been a driver? “About 25 years!” Why did you start driving trucks? “My dad drove a truck, and I needed a job, so I had to quit school and start driving because it was the best paying job you could get without a high school education. Also, it gives me time to read the scriptures and listen to what God is wanting me to know.” How long have been with DHT? “Since March of 2016.” Why do you like DHT? “DHT has good lanes to drive, plus DHT will work with you and treat you decent. The equipment is good, and the Company believes in Christ!” Advice to new drivers? “Don’t complain. Establish yourself on how you want to work to your Driver Managers. They will adhere to your own personal work ethic. Don’t expect a ton of miles if you aren’t willing to work for it.”

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | July / August 2017

We want to give a big shout out to Barbara Ingram! Barbara joined DHT in August of 2011! She left us for a bit but returned in April of 2013 and we are so glad she did. Due to a mistake on our part, she has not shown up in the Anniversaries list and we are so sorry! We love you Barbara, we are thankful you are one of ours, and we hope you will be here for many, many more anniversaries!
