Evaluation

What did you like about your image? In my image I like the shape of the panda it gives a realistic effect of the animal making it look more like the image it’s suppose to be. I also like the effect on the eye with a small white dot to give the eyes a cartoon like gleam.

What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to improve my image if I did it again I would add more of a gradient effect to the animals body and blur the edges out to create a fur like effect. I would also use a wider range of shapes instead of just circles to give the image a different effect. I would add more texture to lift the animal off the page giving it a more realistic and dimensional look.

Evaluation

What did you like about your image? In the image the use of highlighting and shading used on the nose and cupids bow to give it a three dimensional effect adds to the image making his face look lifted. The use of using multiple similar colours on the lips, face, hair and hat gives it a look of realism and instantly makes the picture more recognisable. In the second image the contouring on the hand and use of the blur tool on the palm of the had was effective to create a more realistic looking hand. Another element that I found effective to use on the second image was the use of highlighting and shading the nose, rather than doing it as a separate element.

What would you improve if you did it again? To improve the image next time I would use a wider range of colours in the hair to give it more highlights and subsequently give the image an even more realistic look. I would also add more finer details such as facial hair and show the definition in cheekbones and make the jaw line more prominent. In the future I would add more definition to the face in the second image this would aid to giving the person in the image more character and make it resemble the original picture.

Evaluation

What did you like about your image? The three images I created using George Orwell’s first line from the book 1984. I used the constant colour theme of black and white throughout all three images with accents of dark red on the last image, I like the effect this has on the quote. I used two slightly different sketched eyes on two of the images to show how very similar looking images can create a different interpretation of the quote. The image at the bottom shows a hand coming out of the eye, I like this image because it gives the sense of and entrapment and the need to escape from the dystopian world. On the right hand image I like the way the words are structured against the tower going down it and the strike that goes through the word to emphasise the word.

What would you improve if you did it again? To improve my photo’s in the future I would experiment with a use of more colour and expand the style I chose to adapt more images to give different effects on the quote. I would try out a more complex style along with the simplistic one I have also used to show how different pictures and styles can effect the way words are read and understood by an audience.

Evaluation

What did you like about your image? The image of Johnny Depp I created has a grey shadow effect created by using the threshold effect with cut out underneath and another effect to distort the image making it look less realistic and more distorted. The darkness of all my images make them look more evil making them resemble that of a villain in a comic book. On the top image of Leonardo dicaprio, I used a couple of effects to get the end look and did not use the threshold tool instead used the halftone pattern to give it an olden newspaper, comic book style.

What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to repeat the task I would use a wider range of effects to show how they can make a character look different and give them a different personality. I would use a brighter original image to see the effect of how it could change the outcome, due to the fact all my images created have a dark hue making the comic book style more mysterious and inherently evil.

Evaluation

What did you like about your image? In my image of a short narrative comic book, I like the used of camera angles and story behind it. The use of the smaller door being made to fit into the scene by using the perspective option to make it look like it’s against the wall.

What would you improve if you did it again? To make improvements in the future I would have added a cartoon, non-naturalistic background to each image to allow full creativity with the piece. With a longer period of time allowed I would also added expressions through cartoon symbols rather than speech bubble to fit in with the theme. I would of also taken more time in developing each image to give a professional look.

Evaluation

What did you like about your image?I like the use of colour and the defined outlines my image has. You can clearly se what the image is suppose to be and it has a sense of humour about it from the expression shown on each of their faces. I also like the amount of detail that each outfit has and the colours used on the princesses dress to give a gradient effect.

What would you improve if you did it again?I would add more detail into the background of the image to give it more of a setting and more detail and I would also use brighter colours to give it a more vibrant look. I would also think about my placement of the words a change the layout of the page based on that, giving me more room to write my words and making the text moe legible.

ProposalDimensionsIn the Children's book there would be a total of ten pages including the front cover, the size of the book would be 6X9.

Story OverviewThe story is an old English rhyme that follows a series of events featuring different animals always linking back to the previous verses. The story has no structured narrative but shows how the house is indirectly linked to other things and people. However allows Children reading the story or listening to in to travel through the book with the rhyme. It start with the house that jack built then moves on to other animals through the use of linking one to another, such as a cat chasing a rat then a dog worrying the cat and then a cow who tossed the dog and so forth until you reach the farmer sowing his corn and in the last stanza links back to everything that was previously said such as the cat chasing the rat who ate the malt.

Export Format

The exporting format I would use is a JPEG

Advantages: An advantage of a JPEG is the format is universal, therefore it allows a multitude of people to view the image universally with no specific equipment or program needed.

Disadvantages: A disadvantage of a JPEG however is it’s able to deplete in quality after multiple edits caused by compression and recompression each time the photo is edited.

Deadline

6th November.

AudienceMy Children’s book is mostly targeted at ages 3-6 who learning new phonics and will be able to identify these rhyming patterns and slowly be able to understand the linking of the verses throughout the book. The book is aimed at both genders. Due to the book being aimed at schools rather than parents buying for their children, the book is targeted at a range of social classes and locations around the UK but specifically in a school environment. The children would be eager to sit down and read it with the aid of a teacher and through this learn the rhyming patterns.

Production Methods

To produce my pages I am going to use a mix of hand drawn textures and patterns scanned into the computer along with rotoscoping to create a more unusual and imaginative effect to each animal. I will also use a mix of photographed patterns to give a stylised effect.

Page 22: Development pro-forma

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

Their target audience is well explained with reasons behind everything they have chosen. Their production techniques section is well thought out, realistic and probably the best techniques chosen for the style they want.

Exporting the file as a PSD isn’t the best format to choose as of the large file size. A JPEG would work better as it is used by everyone and a smaller size. Creating 12 pages might be a lot of workload in the time that we have to finish this project, therefore shortening it may be better to produce a smaller quantity with better quality images.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

The idea generation is detailed and showing the contrasting styles is a good idea as it shows the traditional version and how they are going to change it which will allow them to be clear on their task when creating the book. Showing the possible fonts for both the cover and inside of the book shows that they have thought out their book very well.

Their mind map could use some information on production techniques as not much is mentioned.

Page 23: Development pro-forma

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

The target audience is very detail explaining the different aspects of the reader.

you could look at hobbies of the people who might enjoy the story. You could give examples on why you are using those curtain techniques. The better export file to use would be jpeg instead of PSD.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

The images are very well produced and you give a good description of why you are going to be using them. It good that you referred back, when using the text you referred back to one of the images that you liked.

Your mind map could be improved by adding more detail to it and adding your other ideas.

Page 24: Development pro-forma

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

The format is understood well and the advantages/ disadvantages are good. The story is understandable for the most part and the text is clearly understood well.

You could talk more about the setting of the story (where abouts it will take place, time period etc.) and the characters that would be involved in it.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

The production method is clear to follow and the target audience is looked at from a variety of aspects.

You could talk about how you will aim the book at the target audience with techniques and traits that you have found from your research.

Feedback SummarySum up your feedback. The target audience I chose is well described and clear to see. Good description into my ideas and what they entail. Change the exporting format to a JPEG instead of PSD file. My ideas are clearly explored.

Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?The exporting file would be better as a JPEG due to the large file size of a PSD and using a JPEG makes it more accessible to a wider range of people. I agree with the highly and well though out planning of my book and style i am going to use.

Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?

I do not think the hobbies of the children reading my book is a necessary addition due to the wide range and saturated amount of primary school children who will be reading it, so all hobbies and interests will be different except from the fact they enjoy to learn due to the environment they’re in.
