DEVELOPMENT OF GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS FOR WOMEN:
The Women’s Issues Network of Belize (WIN-Belize) proudly announces the launch
of its exchange programme for emerging grassroots leaders. The launch will be held
at the Mexican Institute in Belize City on Tuesday March 29 at 6:00pm. The
exchange programme will be implemented in partnership with Heartland
International, a nonprofit in the USA and Red Mujeres contra la violencia, a
women’s organization in Nicaragua. The goal of the exchange is to create joint
projects between Belizean, Nicaraguan and American participants to share best
practices, promote mutual understanding and address social justice issues common
to all three cultures. The participants will be focusing in the areas of women’s rights
and empowerment, reduction of domestic violence, and trafficking in women.
“Heartland International is pleased to be partnering with WIN Belize on this exciting
project,” said Molly O’Donnell, Programme Director of Heartland International “I am
impressed with the quality and wide variety of organizations in the WIN Belize
network. It is great to see so many dedicated people working hard to end the
numerous challenges that women face in our world. WIN Belize and their Winners
volunteer group are a fabulous example of mobilizing grassroots efforts to reach
every corner of the community with their important information. This is such a
beautiful and friendly country, I can’t wait to return.”
WIN-Belize thanks the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs for funding of the programme.
