What is a design portfolio?A portfolio is a collection of evidence that represents architecturalideas, learning & achievement. A portfolio is kind of narrative tells story
of yourworks and compiling any viewing essential to know your
intended audiences.Portfolios require both the gathering and presentation of evidence and
an element of critical reflection or commentary.
This may either be integrated into elements of the portfolio, or be a
separate element in its own right, in which the student "draws the
evidence together into a coherent tale of learning, of sense made, of
new ideas developed, tested and sometimes discarded"
The portfolio should demonstrate your knowledge of design and
process. The depth and breadth of skills that you possess should
be clear after the entire portfolio has been reviewed.

What is a design portfolio?Portfolios can demonstrate and market transferable skills, refresh yourmemory about activities, reduce interview anxiety, communicate high
levels of interest and preparation, and reduce concern about
misrepresentation of credentials.
Define your objectiveWhat are you hoping to accomplish with the portfolio?
Complete a personal career analysis
What do you want to showcase?
Analyze what you've done and brainstorm skills (technical/transferable),
outcomes, and tangible evidence of these accomplishments. Thetangible evidence can include the resume, formal letters of reference,
informal letters from clients and/or colleagues, photographs, computer
files, disks, video, credentials, statement of philosophy, event flyers,
agendas, etc.

How to build a designportfolio?
focus is on translating your personal strengths
selecting pieces of work to present, and organizing them
structure, choice of work, explanatory text and design
be consistent in how all work is presented and will be viewed
show only your best
all portfolios should show creativity, skills, range, thought, andambition

the reader.
Make each item relevant through the use of captions, section introductions, the
main introduction and closing. organize your portfolio chronologically,
functionally, or around a theme.
Evaluate the portfolio
Evaluate your portfolio related to eye appeal, consistency, organization and
flow, documented character traits, documented technical skills, wording,
grammar, clarity, and whether you met your goals.

VIRTUAL/ONLINE Portfolio
1. Clarity and focus should permeate your portfolio. Avoid meandering in your
language or paths in your website.
2. Wanting to say too much in too little space when creating your portfolio.
3. Show your work! Find the right balance between low file size and quality for
your images
4. Simplicity in navigating. Do not innovate!
5. Narrow the scope of subjects and work promoted.
6. Provide adequate contact, information and explanation to the images.
7. Keep thing simple! Less is more.

Why evidence of design
process is essential in a designportfolio?
I always want to see examples of a job applicant's workfrom every step of the design process, including doodles,
thumbnail sketches, renderings, everything. I want to get an
idea of what it would be like to work with the applicant
throughout a project. The final renderings are actually the
least important part of the portfolio to me because they
don't show the process. - Bryan Gailey, SDI-HTI: Vice-
President
