Why is Detroit great for this?

• space (why?)• saves money (lots of unemployed)

• people with time (lots of unemployed)

• obesity issues• government subsidies (why?)

What environmental pros and cons are there simply from this population decline? (due to deindustrialisation)

Deindustrialisation can be positive for the local environment – eg in Detroit.

But these things are still being made – just somewhere else (where?) – and with even fewer environmental controls, generally – global shift has just changed the location of the factories and the pollution – not reduced it [more likely increased it as there is MORE being made (for the growing middle classes) as well as with fewer controls] - AND there is the added pollution from transporting the goods all over the world...
