s General Guidelines

Kontakt Requirements

Aside from installing LASS, here’s the information on what Kontakt elements you’ll need to run LASS.

if you already have Kontakt 3.5, then you will only need to install the LAss library (5 DVD set).•

if you already have Kontakt 3, you will need to upgrade to Kontakt 3.5 to be able to use LAss. •You can upgrade for free through the Native Instruments Service Center — In Kontakt 3, go to Help, click Launch service Center

if you do not have Kontakt 3 or 3.5, you will need to install the Kontakt Player 3 from the “Kontakt •installation Disc” (supplied). To learn more about how to install Kontakt Player from this disc, see the “Kontakt Player Installation” pages later in this guide.

System Specificationsinterfaces:

Stand-alone, VST®, Audio Units™, RTAS®, ASIO™, Core Audio™, DirectSound™

Minimum system requirements:

Mac OS 10.4.x, G4 1.4 GHz or Intel• ® Core™ Duo 1.66 GHz, 1GB RAM

Windows XP or Windows Vista, Pentium or Athlon 1.4 GHz, 1GB RAM•

300MB free disc space, 40GB for complete installation, DVD drive capable of reading dual layered DVDs•

Note: to get the most out of LASS, it is highly recommended that you install it on the fastest computer you can, with at least 2 gigabytes of RAM. It is also recommended that you install LASS on 2 computers to take full advantage of all divisi sections. this will ensure a better performance and greater polyphony. LASS is like five libraries in one: a First Chair library, 1/4 Divisi A, 1/4 Divisi B, 1/2 Divisi C and a Full Section library. When layering the divisi sections, it can be quite demanding on your system, so for a better performance, it is recommended to use LASS on the fastest computer you can as opposed to the minimum system requirements.

Installation of LASS DVDs First off, it’s suggest to start by installing the LA Scoring Strings (LASS) library DVDs (for information on installing the Kontakt Player 3 CD, refer to the end of this guide).

What to expect when installing the 5 DVDs

Installing LASS from the 5 dual layer DVDs will be a long process (4-5 hours). Because of the nature of dual layer DVDs (DVD-9), expect at least 45 minutes to install per DVD. Depending on your system and DVD drive, it may take as long as 1 hour per DVD. The good news is, you only have to do this once. Once the LASS library is installed, you can copy the entire library folder onto a drive and then copy it onto another system. Once copied to the new system, you can “Add Library” from Kontakt 3.5 or K3 Player and activate it via Native Instruments’ Service Center.

As you begin the install, you may get some crazy “estimated Time” durations... like 22 hours (for example). Please ignore this. In reality, Each DVD will take about 45 minutes to an hour. Also, please be patient, it may seem as though the installation is just “hanging” (especially on PC). Just let the installer do its job and everything should be OK. Also, please do not run other applications or work on the computer while you are installing LAss... it may cause a installation failure.

Note: the audio engine in NAtIVe INStRUMeNtS SoFtWARe has been designed to make optimum use of the available computing power in the CPU. In order to maximize your experience, we recommend you use a modern computer. Also, please make sure you exit all other applications before you install either the LA Scoring Strings DVDs.
