Development of my digital graphics

In this presentation, I will be discussing the development of my final digital designs for a weapon, character and vehicle in the game idea I have created. I will go through the stages it took to complete these images.

The weapon I have chosen is a double barrel shotgun. I chose this weapon because it is a commonly well known weapon to be used in horror/zombie genres and has a badass look to it.

Page 3: Designs presentation

This is my first drawing of the image I wanted to create, using pencil and colouring pencils. When I completed this, I scanned the image and sent it to my email which enabled me to access the image online and open it to image editing software called Pixler.

After uploading the image, I drew the outline of the gun in black using the pencil tool. I also cleared the colour using the paint bucket tool and the pencil tool in white to make it easier to add detail and concentrate on the design. I would use the eraser tool if any mistakes were made, for example drawing over the line.

When adding colour to the design, I mainly used the paint bucket tool to fill in the spaces with brown and grey colours which were picked from the colour selector. The pencil and brush tool were also used to go over patches missed from the bucket tool. If a mistake was made when colouring I’d press control + Z to undo the mistake and then continue.

As I finished the final piece, I decided to add bullets, smoke and the ignition of the flame to show the look of the gun being fired. I completed this by using the smudge tool for the smoke and flame to make it seem more real.

When I edited the design for the second time, improvements were made on using different shades of the colours to make it more darker and making the gunshot more explosive. Overall I made the gun look darker to make it seem less cel-shaded (cartoon looking) and different shades of brown and grey were used to make the image of the gun look effective. For the explosive gunshot, I drew more lines pointing in the direction of the bullets to make it seem more explosive and have some direction and then used the smudge tool to add more smoke and to make the bullets seem like they’re in motion.

Character

When creating my character I wanted him to seem like a working class person by using shirt and tie with grey trousers. However, I also wanted him to seem like a old fashion ‘bad ass’ character which I did by giving him a dark brown leather jacket and slicked back hair with a red belt which has a black skull on it.

I completed this design by uploading a image of the male body outline from the internet to the editing software Pixler. I traced the outline of the body using the pencil tool and had to draw my own jaw line from scratch.

Before filling in the colours of the characters clothes I thought it was important to start on the main details of his face to make sure I was capable enough to complete that part of the image. When adding the detail, the pencil tool and the bucket tool were used to put this image of his face together.

When I was satisfied with the detail of his face, I moved on to defining his leather jacket with the bucket tool to fill in the colour I chose. The bucket tool filled most of the space in however left a white outline in the inside of his jacket which I then had to fill in by hand using the pencil tool.

The same happened when filling in the characters trousers, I used the bucket tool to fill in the colour and then the pencil tool to go round the edges. I was not satisfied with the trousers/legs because they seem more like jogging bottoms than trousers. I also added a belt with a skull for the character to emphasize his personality.

When completing the image I filled in the remaining colours needed and edited the trousers to make them seem less like tights.

However, I’m satisfied with the final image.

Vehicle

For the vehicle, I chose a 1970s dodge charger to make the character seem cool and outline the type of character I’m trying to create.

In this image, I tried to create the car to seem like its moving on the roads.
