Step 1: Review Your Regimen

Write down what you are using and the steps you have been following up to this point in time.


Step 2: Getting Clear on Challenges

Now it’s time to get specific. The skin is the body’s largest organ and it is the protective interface to the environment. Our skin’s appearance is a reflection of our health and measure of our age and beauty. We all go through three forms of skincare life stages.

1. Natural aging is intrinsic (internal) and begins to appear in the mid-20’s.

2. Extrinsic (external) factors work together to prematurely age our skin.

3. Lifestyle choices are daily personal choices that affect skin and how it appears.

Living our lives exposes us to seven factors that can damage skin at the cellular level.

. UV Exposure – the sun or fluorescent lights; prolonged exposure to UV rays results in freckles, dark spots, and aging.;

. Climate Changes – winter cold vs summer hot;

. Lifestyle Habits – smoking – stress – lack of sleep or exercise;

. Internal Factors – healthy fat or bone loss;

. Chronological Aging – dry skin – fine lines and wrinkles

. Improper Skincare Regimen – neglect – choices

This list is by no means all inclusive.


Choosing a healthy lifestyle means more healthy skin. . Commit to a skincare regimen, every day. . Keep stress in check;. Eat healthy;. Don’t smoke;. Move your body;. Get a good night’s sleep;. Drink adequate water;

All skin types need adequate water content to maintain healthy-looking skin. There is a difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin. Dehydrated skin is a skin condition caused by a lack of sufficient water while Dry skin is a skin type that lacks sufficient oils.

1. Cleanse – twice daily, morning and evening, to sweep away pore-clogging impurities and makeup;

2. Tone – to complete the cleansing process, reset the PH of your skin and prepare it to more readily absorb treatment and moisturizing products;

3. Treat – to address specific skincare challenges and zero in on concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, discoloration, blemishes, and uneven skin tone.

4. Eye Crème –for the delicate eye area using specially formulated moisturizers for specialized results like allowing the moisture to evaporate trapped in under eye bags;

5. Moisturize – day and night; use an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in the day to help protect skin from the sun’s aging rays.

Even if your skin is oily you need to hydrate. Hydration is about water, not oil. Properly hydrated skin looks healthy and radiant, and is better prepared to resist the first signs of aging. Like your wardrobe, your daily moisturizer may change with the seasons. Harsher, colder temps may call for heavier creams, while hotter weather may be better suited to lightweight lotions.
