What does 'reclaimed, recycled or salvagedmaterials' mean?

In the spirit of the sustainability mandate of EvergreenBrick Works, all proposed designs must contain at least

50% existing, reclaimed, or recycled materials. These

materials must be non-virgin, with some previous use

or purpose, and/or materials destined for landfill or

waste had they not been used in the submission. These are materials that the artists themselves must

procure, and will not be provided by Design by Nature

    or Evergreen Brick Works.

Where will the installations/pieces be displayed?

The installations will be dotted through the Evergreen

BrickWorks campus with some pieces installed inside

and outside. Pieces should be designed to withstand

the rigors of an unsupervised public environment. Weencourage functional pieces of furniture that can be

easily moved around the site and do not take up too

    much space.

Can I tour the installation locations beforesubmitting an application?

Artists are welcome to join in a site tour of Evergreen

Brick Works prior to submission deadline. Please

contact [email protected] for available dates.

Otherwise, artists are free to visit the Evergreen Brick

Works Site site on their own time, during public visiting

    hours. http://ebw.evergreen.ca/visit

Within what dimensions can I design myinstallation/piece to be?

Any size of piece will be considered. However, keep in

mind the location and scale, and public nature of the

installation sites. Monumental pieces may have trouble

fitting at the proposed installation locations, and small,

precious pieces may not be suitable for an

    unsupervised public environment.

Can I submit a proposal if I have submittedpreviously, or won previously?

    Yes, you may submit again!

How many proposals can I submit?

Each artist may submit up to four distinct proposals for

a piece. Please use the same application for all pieces,

and submit a number description and images that

correspond to number of pieces submitted.

Will the public have access to myinstallation/piece?

All installations/pieces will be located in the public

access spaces of Evergreen Brick Works, where all

visitors will be able visitors to see, touch and interact

with your submission. Some pieces may be exhibited

outdoors, if appropriate, and so it is best to design

submissions to withstand the rigors of an unsupervised

public environment as well as outdoor conditions.

Although Evergreen Brick Works visitors are a

respectful bunch, you should expect to have your

submission explored by children, which means that

they should be safe to touch, sit on, lean against, or

    enter.

    Who selects the finalists?
